Cleansing conditioners for CO-washing

Found this online.
Kiwi & Lime ingredients: Water; Cetyl Alcohol; Stearyl Alcohol; Stearalkonium Chloride; Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract; Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract; Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract; Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract; Hydrolyzed Collagen; Ergocalciferol (Vitamin D); Steareth-21; Glyceryl Stearate; Benzophenone-4; Corn Oil; Propylene Glycol; Disodium EDTA; DMDM Hydantoin; Fragrance; Blue 1; Yellow 5.
It showed a picture of the old style bottle but I figured it was the new ingredients using a graphic of the old bottle. They are different than those listed on an old bottle I have.
Water; Cetyl Alcohol; Cetrimonium chloride; Stearalkonium chloride; Stearyl Alcohol; Steareth-21; Glyceryl Stearate; Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract; Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract; Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract; Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract; Hydrolyzed Collagen; Tocopheral acetate, Biotin, Niacinimide, Polysorbate 20, Ascorbic acid, Panthenol, Propylene Glycol; Benzophenone-4; DMDM Hydantoin; Disodium EDTA; Fragrance; Blue 1; Yellow 5.

Is corn oil used in lots of conditioners? Can't say as I've ever seen it listed on anything.

OK, I am probably going to drive you all nuts, but what is low-poo, and no-poo? I had the impression it was a name brand. I was all set to buy it. I am sure it stands for something that is pertaining to the conditioners we use. Please help again. I have been looking for a more informative section of this site, but cannot find it. I especially wanted a complete list of no-sulfate condtioners, and no 'cone conditioners, without having to delve through all the ingredient lists ea. time I buy. Thanks if you can help.

jeepcurlygurl:

Your post about VO5 confused me a little bit because the first LOI is the same as in the bottle I bought a couple of weeks ago AND as the old one that I've had for I think a year, so I am assuming the 2nd LOI corresponded to the new formula even though you said those ingredients are different than your old bottle (Can you "clarify"? No pun intended, really! )

So it seems I guessed right, they are trying to make it more moisturizing because the differences I noticed were: the addition of cetrimonium chloride, another quaternary ammonium salt more detangling than stearalkonium cl.; glyceryl stearate, an emollient, appears higher up, meaning they increased the amount; they added the vitamins biotin, niacinamide and ascorbic acid (C), they added polysorbate 20 (non-ionic surfactant/emulsifier) and panthenol (moisturizer) BUT they removed the corn oil, something I consider made this more "CG"-friendly. There's no way of knowing if they decreased the amount of lime juice so I don't know if it will still be as clarifying as before.

callie603:

To avoid further confusion, let me add that both DevaCurl and DevaCare are product lines developed by the owners of the salon Devachan in NYC. One of them is Lorraine Massey, author of the book "Curly Girl" (a must read!) and creator of the routine outlined in the book, which we call CG for short. And "no-poo" is also a term sometimes used here to refer to the no-shampoo part of the routine for curlies (wavies sometimes need a gentle shampoo).

I think you meant to direct the last bit to RedHead. I've read Curly Girl and been trying to do CG and co-washing since March 05... But thanks for the extra info and clarification!

The first list of ingredients are from online showing a picture of the OLD bottle. So I figured it was the NEW ingredients and they just used an old grapic.
The second list of ingredients are from an OLD bottle I have so I figured it was definitely the OLD formula.

And now I'm even more confused. You have an old bottle with the first set of ingredients and I have an old bottle with the second set of ingredients? errrggg. My brain hurts.

I'm scratching my head wondering what the heck they've been doing... Most of these companies have 2 or 3 manufacturing plants from which they ship to different regions, so I'm wondering if VO5 does too it could be that wherever I'm getting mine from maybe had a large inventory of the "old" formula and that's why I still could get some of it.

A couple of years ago I "discovered" their "So Smooth" anti-frizz formula with jojoba oil at a dollar store. I bought one bottle and was very surprised to get really good results, I could use it as a leave-in and skip the gel so very excitedly I came here to share the news. Well, several people searched high and low and I couldn't imagine why no one could find it until finally someone found out through the site or something that was actually a discontinued type but I'd never seen it before ianywhere in 2 years of doing CG! I ran back and got a second bottle but because I started using other more detangling COs it got bad before I could finish it. I always thought it was a shame they had to discontinue that one!

Next time I go to K-Mart or Wal-mart I'll check and see which one they have there, I believe I saw the new bottles at K-mart last time I was there. However, I was at Walgreen's 2 days ago and they didn't even have the K&L and whatever they had was in the teardrop bottles, maybe because they sell much less they still are selling whatever they had in their warehouse.

Ok CVS had the new formula. The bottle isn't too terribly much different. It says new richer formula softer hair on the new one. No corn oil in this one. Fine by me. The cap is silfer, my old one was sorta umm bronze or goldy color? not silver anyway.
I'll be using it tomorrow so I'll get to see how it works then. I don't need my washing one to be any richer so I hope that's just hype. I use a plenty rich conditioner in the winter already for actual conditioning.

Anyhoo, that's my excitment for the day

Currently: Trying to stop straightening so much. Using Elucence conditioner and whatever works for me.
I use Suave Tropical Coconut conditioner. I love the smell of it and it's good for co-washing because it's so light and wont weigh your hair down if you choose to condition with a normal product after.
Kg I like the Suave too. Using it too many days in a row gives me frizz though. WEird since some proteins don't do that. I rotate the suave coconut with another conditioner.

Now for some other news Kg, they reformulated the suave coconut too. Whatcha wanna bet it's a richer new formula?

I know they're trying to make it better for an actual conditioner but dang it that's why we like the cheap ones they are light enough to Co wash

Re: VO5 K& L.

Well, the cap sure has nothing to do with it because my old bottle has a gold cap and the "new" one has a silver cap yet both formulas are the same.

Both of mine are round but it's really the ingredients what counts for me, I've been using this CO since '03 and I knew what I bought was the same as before.

If I'm not mistaken, the KLS with the corn oil is the original formula.
