Low poo with chelating ingredients?
I would like to find a low poo with chelating ingredients to help with hard water buildup...
I am having luck with Giovanni TTTT shampoo and I think it is because the coco betaine is further down on the list (may be sensitive to it).
Soooo...I am looking for a sulfate free shampoo, with chelating ingredients, which lists coco betaine lower on the list (or uses something other than coco betaine).
Any recommendations? Thanks!

Curl Junkie Daily Fix Cleansing Conditioner is one of the gods for hard water build up:
http://www.curlmart.com/Curl-Junkie-...1.html#reviews
I want to say any ingredient with the "EDTA" in it removes build up? But I can't remember.
It personally didn't work for me (drat), but I think it was a protein that I am sensitive to. You should try ACV rinses to help your scalp too. I use them a lot.

Malibu 2000 - Xcptnl had mentioned using it to remove minerals from her hair since she has well water (I think I have that right - it was a while back). I read up on it at their site and recently got some to try for my scalp. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. It's sulfate-free:
www.malibu2000.com/content/CN_Catalog.aspx?id=7#10
I got the Scalp Wellness, but as you can see, they have several varieties.

I had heard of the CJ Daily Fix Cleansing Conditioner...But had doubts that as co-wash, it would not be as effective at removing hard water desposits...But it seems to be the opposite after reading some reviews...
As for Malibu 2000, I have never heard of it! Research time...

I live in a very hard water area and the CJ Daily Fix has worked really well for me...even better than some sulfate poos.

So, in theory, if the CJ Daily Fix works to remove the hard water deposits, and I alternate that with the Giovanni TTTT, I really should not need to use the sulfate poo for anything...I really am trying to be completely sulfate free but there is something that makes me feel nothing gets all the gunk out of my hair like a sulfate poo once or twice a week.

Daily Fix is a NOPOO, not a lowpoo.
CJ Gentle Cleansing is a lowpoo with that EDTA chelating ingredient (but low on the list, if that matters). Here are ingredients:
Ingredients: Water, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, CocamidopropylBetaine, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate, Glycerin, Lauryl Glucoside, PE G-150 Pentaerythrityl tetrastearate, PE G-6 Capric/Caprylic Glycerides, Laureth 4,Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey, Panthenol, Matricaria Recuitita (Chamomile) Flower Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Sambucus Nigra (Elder) Flower Water, Quaternium-79 Hydrolyzed Silk Protein, Sodium Chloride (Dead Sea Salt), Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Oil, Citrus Aurantium (Neroli) Oil, Citrus Aurantium (Petitgrain) Oil, Brown Rice (Oryza Sativa) Powder, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Disodium EDTA ,Tocopheryl Acetate.
It's not the easiest poo to use (like Daily Fix, there's a trick to it and takes a bit of getting used to), but it works quite well. One of the least lathering lowpoos, but CJ stuff is quality and this one is super-duper gentle. Smells floral-grapey to me. I tend to use a lot, use lots of water (like with Daily Fix), and lather up as much as I can in hands first (doesn't lather much for me).

I alternate CJDF with GTTTT or T-Sal (also sulfate-free), and they clean mine fine. I only ordered the Malibu 2000 stuff to see if it really made a difference in my scalp.

I really want to try the CJ Daily Fix as it seems to be what I need...From your experience, if my hair became overconditioned by co-washing in general (VO5 condishes), and responds better to shampooing, do you think my hair could handle CJDF about once a week for hard water? It seems to be a combo of a condish and low poo as it has coco betaine...Thoughts?

CJ Daily Fix is great, one of the best in a line of really high quality products. My hair didn't overcondition with cowashing--it just wasn't great. I use the natural soap bars to cleanse, because they're gentle and my hair seems to love them (tighter curl, more volume.) I do try to use the CJ Daily Fix every 2-3 weeks for the chelating properties. I use a rinse out with it, you could try it without a rinse out if you're afraid you might overcondition. There are people who do it that way.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the CJDF, so here's hoping it works for me...I also ordered the Slip Detangler, thought it may be nice and light under curl creams... :-)

My hair responds best to low poos usually and I thought I'd never get to use a cleansing conditioner, but I use curl fix at least a few times a week with no problems. I have hard water too.
Another of my favorite LOW poos isn't out yet, but I got to sample it, and that's Spiral Solutions Moisturizing Cream Shampoo. It'll be out in August though, and I'd give that one a try as well. It has Cocomidapropyl Betaine in it, and is literally the most gentle of any low poo I've tried but cleanses for me as well as a sulfate without the feeling of stripped-ness (is that a word?) you can get from sulfates. It's WONDERFUL and I'm going to buy in bulk.

I can not wait for this to come out. I've read all the wonderful reviews and sooooo want to try it! I just hope it doesn't come out when I'm on vacation during the first week in Aug. I'm worried it will be sold out before I can buy it!

Rymorg2- Do you wash with a low poo or the CJDF every day?

I'm so jealous of all of you who can use Daily Fix. I just can barely scrub it into my scalp, I'm thinking it's the Hydrolyzed Oat Flour... but I don't know. Still have half of a sample left from KM, I'm going to try it again when I move to soft water just out of curiosity. I think my extra hard/mineral-y well water makes my hair react oddly to things.

What do you mean you can just barely scrub it into your scalp? What does it do/not do?

I really try to get my hair as wet as possible, but when I start scrubbing it in my hair feels dry again. And with every other co-wash I have tried I end up with grease at my side bang but this one got rid of that. I took probably a quarter sized amount (the first time I tried a dime to a nickel size and that didn't seem to do much at all) and added the water as I was supposed to. But once it got on my scalp the "slip" just kinda disappeared and it didn't feel like using GTTTT or Deva Low Poo. The top layer of my hair felt frizzy/dry as I worked it in too. I can only guess it's the Oat Protein, wondering if I can't handle hydrolyzed proteins like Jess (I think it was Jess)? Did I do something wrong?
I mean honestly, I don't scrub too much on my scalp with any co-wash. My hair starts feeling dry after a minute or two with just about any of them. And if I don't feel dry then the co-wash ends up being too heavy for me. I deduce it's my hard country well water because when I go to my Aunt's house with a water softener it gets wet in like 2.5 seconds. Another reason I can never figure out my hair's porosity.

It's not ever going to feel like a sudsing shampoo, but it cleanses very well if you use enough. I've used it with well water at my parent's house and haven't experienced what you describe.
Scrubbing your scalp well is really the main point of washing your hair - if you scrub it well, the mechanics of that is enough to get the hair itself clean, but if you don't, you get a buildup of dead skin cells and oil, not to mention probably product buildup, on your scalp that can clog your hair follicles and interfere with hair health - just saying . . . You should always scrub it well, whatever method you're using - co-washing, low-pooing, no-pooing, co-pooing, plain water washing - whatever.
BTW, I was just looking at your Fotki - your curls have really come a long way, and you sure have some pretty blue eyes!
