Hair cut today- HELP-no more 2nd day hair

I'm getting my hair trimmed today after work and lately (past week or so) I can't get second day hair any longer. I don't know if it's from the cold, dry weather now OR my hair is getting too long.
When I get up, there is hardly any curl left. Mostly stringy and YUCK.
No fixing it without re-doing it in the sink.
Is it possible to have longer hair (just below shoulder length) and have good curl formation and good 2nd day hair? Do I need shorter layers while keeping the overall length long(er)?
I have layers right now but they are starting to grow out.
If I lived someplace with humidity, this wouldn't be an issue but I don't.

Same thing has been happening to me . I really think its the cold weather for me as I just had a hair cut . When the weather is warmer I have the tightest curls and great second day hair . This weak the temp went down into the 20's and 30's and bam , flatter hair .
That might be my issue too then. Because it happened all of a sudden. If it was because of the cut, then it would have happened gradually. I didn't start getting in the habit of not washing everyday til this past summer. So, I'm sure I didn't even notice it last winter since to me, there was no such thing as not washing. oh well..... I guess I'll have to wait til spring.

oh dang it the bug mode ate my post!
I was saying maybe you need a DT? Mine was acting funky and not as curly and I used a rich DT, CJ hibiscus banana deep fix to be exact and boy my hair bounced back with a vengence. It's just too dry right now to have great curls without some babying.
2c/3a?
Low porosity, medium texture.

If it smells good put it in your hair, if it tastes good spit it out!
hmm... that could be it too. I haven't done a DT in a long while. I get lazy.
I think tonight after I get home, I'll do that.
So far I've done at least two clarifying treatments over the past few weeks and NO DT's!

Have you ever tried using some Jessicurl Gelebration along with your styling product? It is amazing how much it perks up my curls, even the underneath layer which is almost straight.
