She touched my hair!

Could I be more annoyed? I don't think so. Someone I don't know very well (and don't like) came into my office (my back was turned) and started picking away at my curls! I was horrified and annoyed!!! It has taken me so long to be able to say I'm having a "good" hair day - and this annoying woman just comes in and starts touching my curls. I'm so pi$$ed. It would be different if it was a friend, but even my friends know not to touch these curls. I had to tell her to stop and say it would make my hair frizzy. Then she started asking what I use, didn't really listen, and started talking about her own, very uninteresting hair. JEEZ!!!!

Let's hear from you if you've had uninvited fingers in your hair......

There's a kid in the youth group I work with who always touches my hair. It's very annoying but I hate to yell at her for it because she's a good kid. I try to hint about not touching it but she doesn't get it or she becomes even more annoying, "I'm touching you." Dumb kid :-)

Kaia 12-06-2006 08:26 AM

Not recently, but I think that has something to do with the "look of death" I give people who look like they're even considering touching my hair. I absolutely hate it though! I've decided next time someone picks at my hair, I'm grabbing a chunk of theirs and giving it a swift tug. See how they like it. :?

Texas Mama 12-06-2006 08:29 AM

LOL Bailey! Hysterical!

hockeymomof3 12-06-2006 08:39 AM

Someone I hadn't seen in awhile took both their hands to the side of my hair and did a little "scrunching" and was telling someone "oh don't you just love those curls" or something like that...ARGH. It's kinda like the pregnant belly syndrome -- people think it's public property! :)

Texas Mama 12-06-2006 08:50 AM

Okay, just thinking of preggo belly made me go "Grrrr". I flippin hate that.

Kaia 12-06-2006 09:01 AM

Ugh, the pregnant belly thing makes me shudder. I hate for strangers to touch me now, I can only imagine how much it's going to bug me when I'm pregnant with hormones. At least when you're pregnant, you can blame it on the hormones when you kick their butt. ;)

curlyjenn 12-06-2006 09:10 AM

I don't mind touching too much. I HATE it when someone starts actually PICKING at the curls with their fingers, though! I like it when people touch my hair now, though, because it's so soft! I always used to have crunchy hair, but now I know how to make it soft, so I like it when someone notices!

Curls&Waves 12-06-2006 09:10 AM

Too funny Bailey. Hehehe
I'm not trying to knock straight hair but I notice when I go out with my sister or friends (who have straight hair) that me and my friend with curly hair get the hands on hair treatment without permission. It does annoy me to no end which is why I like wearing my hair in a bun - no touching. I actually once had someone come behind me once and try to comb my hair. :x She meant it in a nice way to "smooth the top and static" but didn't understand my hair would look like a bird's nest as a result and was pretty persistent. Luckily, I used some leave-in-conditioner and that was the end of it.

Just in my experience when I straighten my hair, people will "ooo" and "aah" at straight hair and look only, but when I wear my hair curly it is like some people think go ahead and touch. Very strange. I just don't understand that.

StellarCurls 12-06-2006 09:37 AM

I'm usually not funny about people I'm close to touching my hair, because the ones that really care know to just pat, but my mom likes to pull on my curls, running her fingers through them. She always says she thinks my hair would look so much better if I brushed it  . I jerk my head away and fuss at her--I don't know what I would do to a stranger.

It drives me insane when people touch my hair, my bf knows its only ok if we are staying, and I don't even like it then, but I figure he's good the rest of the time and he really likes playing with my hair. But my friend Nando insists on rubbing the top of my head really fast everytime he sees me. He does it the other girls we hang out with too, but they are all straighties so they don't care! ~~jax[/u]

One of my aunts, who I seldom see because she lives in a different state, used to always grab a hand full of my hair on the top and pull it. It always made me crazy. Last time I saw her she refrained, but just stared at it until I said, "Its still curly." I was expecting another pull. My husband knows a lot of self defense and gave me some pointers, but I didn't have to use them on the 80+ year old woman!

Well, I'm the exception...I don't really care if people touch my hair and I don't care if my DG (dear guy) plays with it. Yes, it does make it a bit frizzy but I don't really care. Now, I'm not so sure how I would feel about major scrunching and playing with my hair by strangers but I've never had anybody do anything other than pat it or pull or a curl.

I have a force field that lets me know when intruders are near
I can lean away from someone trying to touch my hair so fast and look so crabby that so far no one I didn't want to has done it. I'm sure my day will come though.
Now don't let me be all having a nice curly hair day and have one of my chihuahuas with me. Why do people think if they stop and talk to you that it's ok to pet your dog? Chis aren't known for liking strangers and they look all offended that I have taught my dog to not like strangers. Oy! It's not public property!

LavenderCurls 12-06-2006 12:20 PM

I, actually, would pay people to touch my hair  . Every great once in awhile, someone will lightly touch my hair and comment on the curls.

My husband, however, knows he needs to feed my wave/curl ego as it's all because of him I decided to let my hair do it's own thing (with the help of 100 or so products over the last couple of years  ). So he frequently touches just the bottom and tells me when it looks good.

When someone does touch my hair, it's usually just on one curl or ringlet and they just lightly touch it at the bottom. I would imagine I'd pull back in horror if someone began picking my waves/curls apart, though!

juvjoy 12-06-2006 01:02 PM

Ooooh I agree w/ curlyjenn! I love touching my hair & having others touch it now :) It's so soft and stays in place using the Jessicurl stuff. I'm like curlyjenn to , where before nobody could touch it cuz it was crunchy.

Ugh i hate when ppl touch my hair too , i remember years ago i was at a amusement park and felt something or someone touching my hair from behind ( back then my hair was down to my butt ) , i turned around cuz i thought it was a friend that was waiting with me in line 4 the ride and two girls were like sorry had to touch your hair of curls , so pretty , is it natural or perm ? i was like natural and moved further away , my friend couldnt believe strangers would touch my hair without asking..or i get friends who pull on my curls too and didnt understand why i would get mad at that..now that im older the only ppl that can touch my hair are my neices lol..i just cant go up to someone and touch their hair period , i find it just plain rude ..i just compliment on their hair and thats it. until u have a head of curls ppl wont understand the concept of *dont touch the curls/hair period *.

Transpogue 12-06-2006 01:09 PM

Hee, reading all your "touching" stories makes me giggle a bit because as a stylist I'm SO used to putting my hands in people's hair that when I'm at a social gathering and I find someone's hair intriguing, I literally have to hold myself back from sinking my hands into their coif. We get so used to having our own heads futzed with in hair school and by other stylists (just last night at a bar I kept smoothing down a fellow stylist's hair, we don't even think about it anymore) that I probably wouldn't bat an eye at a stranger touching my hair.

But I think that most civilized people know to keep their hands off. Please, ask first :).

Kgrl17 12-06-2006 01:25 PM

I've had a friend run his fingers through my hair when it was wet. It wasn't a huge deal but I wanted it to dry nice to go out that night! I was upnorth and had forgotten a hair straightener...

Aries_jb 12-06-2006 01:33 PM

In general, I don't mind people I know touching my hair. Most people will pick up and play with one curl, which is fine.

What I don't like is strangers touching my hair, no matter how they touch it. I just think it's weird, especially when they don't even preface the touch with a comment. They just silently touch it and don't even say anything when I look at them. Very strange. I mean, I'm intrigued by certain things about people too, but I would never think to touch someone.
