I feel like I am more between a 3A and a 3B.

I feel more in between a 3A and a 3B. My curls are more in between the two. In the 'Curly Girl' book, I am more considered a Boticelli, which is Nicole Kidman. My curls seem more variated in size and shape. So how do I know which I am, or am I neither? I definately have naturally red, course AND thick curls. Perhaps they are too heavy to show as much?

Please help me to understand my curl.

Same here.. It's been a problem figuring it out for me, since my hair used to be only wavy on top, and "sausage curls"...corkscrews at the ends and underneath. You probably could benefit from using products that both 3a's and 3b's love, which I do! My hair is now sort of a mix of different sized curls like you describe... In the CG book, my hair is like a cross between Keri Russell's and Nicole Kidman's, and as a result, I generally consider myself to be 3a corkicelli

A picture would be great!...Or you can click on the orange CurlPix button at the top, and find a picture that is similar to your hair

It's quite possible to have more than one hair type on your head, or to be between types. It's all good!

You could be a mix. It's not unusual.

Typing is helpful for making mental pictures and making product and routine recs, but, other than that, it's not a huge issue.

I have thicker, less fine hair, and the frizz can get in the way of curl definition. We all have our quirks, and it seems to be lots of trial and error to figure it out. It does help to look at others with similar types though.

Yes, I see what you mean. It has been a fun journey to rediscover my red curls. I just finished making my lavender spritz, and am eager to try a great condioner-sugar scrub for my scalp. Take care from one Red to another.
