Sausage/banana/natural "curling iron" curls
Anyone here have to separate their chunky curls or else they look like this? My hair usually looks like its been curled with a curling iron and I have to pick apart the curls (which always wind themselves around each other anyway!) or else I have a mop of sausage/banana/curling ironish curls that look silly on me...I mean come on! This wig was for Halloween.. I feel crappy now...

yep i get that. i find the longer i leave my hair without washing the more and more ringlets i get. if i wait 3 days till i next wash my hair, i have a whole head of ringlets. i think one or two do look pretty but when you have a whole head of them its very impractical as they just dont sit right.

but i do think they are gorgeous curls and shouldnt be scorned at and you shouldnt feel embarrased to have them! its nice to have hair like that so you can play around with it, some days having lots of curls and somedays pulling them apart and having a different style

Ok you just send those sausage curls to me k? I'll handle them :D

I think it's beautiful, someone else must too because that wig was meant to be sexy.
My hair sausages up like that in some spots. My hair is layered quite a bit so it won't do that all over but I must have had 8 of those yesterday (humid day) and I was pretty dang happy about it. As long as my hair is happy I'm happy :D :D

I get curls like that on either side of my neck--my boyfriend gets a kick out of them. I can only wish my whole head looked like that :) .

I only wish I had a headfull of those!!! I have a few underneath...and one consistent one behind my left ear. My daughter likes to stick her finger in it.

medusahair - you said that because your hair is layered you dont get so many of those ringlets. i have a hair appointment for 2 weeks time and was thinking of getting long layers in my hair - would this stop me getting so many ringlets? i was thinking it might give me more as i'll have layers of ringlets rather than one long ringlet on top of all my hair.

i'm worried now i dont want to lose my ringlets!

JF my hair isn't as curly as yours and I have short layers. My shortest layer isn't even to the tip of my nose. It's just a bit past my eye barely. I should have been more specific, long layers are fine, it gives my hair enough length to spiral but the shorter layers don't always do that. Some do but not as often.
Now if I had curlier hair like you that might be a different story. I don't know I had my hair all one length when my hair was curlier at puberty.

Boy I'm scared for you to make a change, I love your hair like it is now. But ya know long layers would be easy to grow out if you don't like it and that's waaaaaaay different than short layers.

i've just had my hair cut like this (same length all the way round) since i was 12 and i feel at the back it can occasionally look it a little random and 'nothing' - i get nice curls at the front where my hair is slightly shorter so i feel if i get just a very gradual long layer at the back i'll have more curls on the top layer and it'll make my hair more 3-dimensional.

i trust my hair dresser, she is really sweet and lovely. and if it does go wrong i'm hoping, like you said, it won't be too hard to grow out or disguise. i think i just need a bit of weight off the top layer (as it is the longer hair on my head) so that the curls spring up a bit more and are a bit more uniform.

fingers and toes crossed it comes out ok!

sorry for guanoning...

I've been getting some of these this winter. I don't know why my witner curls are fatter, almost 3Aish

I just separate them if I am not in the mood for the fat ones

further guano sorry......
You're right you do get less full on ringlets in the back in those pics you post. You get one down the middle left. Maybe some long layers will help you get more back there.
The appt needs to hurry up cause I wanna see! I love love love love love your hair, more ringlets would make me so green!

jennyfurrens 12-07-2006 11:03 AM

awh medusa i feel bad at making you green!

remember i usually take photos of my hair when it looks good - i also have bad hair days that i dont really want to document as much! and the grass is always greener on the other side... i sometimes really wish i had long loose flowing wavy curls as the ringlets just kinda stick together and you cant do anything with them!

In response to the layers you'll be getting, I found that my hair curls tighter with layers, and my hair has been layered anywhere from between chin and shoulder, all the way to bra-strap length, although it is curliest above the shoulder for me... HTH!

jennyfurrens 12-07-2006 11:21 AM

Thanks Jolie! I was hoping I might get tighter curls with layers, as the top layer is starting to just hang and look a bit messy and uncared for.

And I do love my ringlets but I know what you mean about old-fashioned. I've always called them my 'china doll' ringlets, which is really the Victorian look!
