It's so thick I can't even let it down. It sort of resembles a lion's mane.

Anyways I was wondering what hair cuts would suit thick hair. I've already tried long layers with little success.

I've had short haircuts when I was way younger but I feel like my hair is different now and may not react well. Is there any way to pull of extremely thick, wavy hair in a short hair cut? I figured my roots were flat anyways....and I'd be willing to straighten it if it's short, since I'd be regularly snipping off the damaged parts.

I dunno I need a change and desperately want to let my hair down without a bush of hair around my head.

Thanks!
Hair type: 2C-3A, very dry, extremely low porosity, med elasticity, insanely thick kinky-wavy.
HGs: Trader Joe's Nourish spa conditioner, Epsom salt rinse, Joico K-pak conditioner
I also have super thick hair! I am growing it out after wearing is short for about 4 years. I had a stacked bob, which I liked. I'm liking my hair longer much more though. I regularly get it thinned by piecing - cutting out small pieces of hair closer to the scalp. I won't let the stylist use a razor or thinning shears for thinning. The piecing helps a lot. I also like the versatility of wearing my hair up and off my face.
CG since June/09
3a/b extremely thick, coarse, porous
Loving AOHR, Biolage Conditioning Balm, KCCC.
Have you tried having a dry cut? My hair is very thick and I have had a Deva cut for the past 3 years. I love it.

That's me with FSG as my styler!!

3b. fine & thick, coarse, dry, medium porosity. Sucks up product and loves ACVs! FSG is my HG!

Currently using:
Low Poo: TJ's Refresh No Poo: CoWash w/VO-5; Sonoma Soap Company sulfate-free poo
RO: Yes to Cuc; SSC Lavender Condish; Sally GVP LI: Donna Marie Miracle D&C
Style: FSG w/Aussie Instant Freeze & CIAB
No unfortunately all my cuts have been "wet" cuts.

My mom doesn't really want me spending so much on hair cuts (I'm a curly teen). So it's difficult to find a good stylist for a bargain...like, under 30 dollars.

On another note I'm seriously considering the inverted (stacked) bob. Just don't want triangle hair lol

Or maybe I'll just opt for a trim and redo my layers. I don't want to regret short hair but I'm so tired of long hair.

I don't know how thick my hair is compared to yours, but my hairdressers always go on and on about how much hair I have. You mentioned an inverted bob, and I think that's what I have...

I do get my curly daughter these haircuts, and me, and I am notoriously cheap about haircuts, I haircut the other 4 in the household but for superthick or curly it is just such a big difference to have the good haircut that it seems well worth paying for. So I'd advise you to go ahead and ask, let her know you would go half as often if the haircuts cost twice as much, or just once a year or whatever, so the cost wouldn't be that bad.

ohmygosh Willwork4curls, your hair is ah-mazing!

I don't think it'll work for me curly because I have such a flat top...wouldn't mind doing some straightening, however.

Who knows maybe it'll curl up. I think I'll go for it since I've never tried it before. Well not since I was 5 anyways.

Thank you for the kind words

I used to have a flat top too. My hair has become quite curly on top which I attribute to the cut, the Spritz & Condish method found on these boards, great products, and just figuring out what my hair likes.

Please let us know how your hair turns out - how fun!

My hair is VERY thick, too. Though it's a mix of fine and medium strands, it's hard to find products that won't weigh it down. I'd honestly be careful about a short cut unless you're okay with getting it trimmed frequently.

My hair grows SO quickly. I got my hair dry cut about 4 weeks ago and the top layers have already grown out to the point that they're weighing down the rest of my hair.

When I had a really short cut, it always grew out sideways so it would be really puffy.
2B/C; very, very thick fine to medium hair; low porosity.

Current Products:
Co-Wash: Jane Carter Revitalizing CoWash
Conditioner: Aubrey Organics Island Replenishing, Aubrey Organics GPB, KCKT
Leave-In: Alaffia Hair Lotion

I like the deva cut for my thick hair. It helps my curls clump.
