aveda going back - Devacurl is in :)

I got so sick of my hair tonight. It started out ok and then it went downhill fast. We went to a dinner party and when I got home I looked in the mirror and shrieked!! I told hubby, "why didn't you tell me my hair looked like that???" It was just awful - it went stringy and greasy looking :(
What must have people thought? They probably thought - doesn't she ever wash her hair. UGH!
So anyway, I couldn't go to sleep with it like that so into the sink once again. This time I used OneC as a co-wash since I already shampooed earlier and instead of using my new aveda products, I sprayed in some SIF into wet hair and then I put in some Arc Angell and diffused dry. I did add a little bit of my scrunch spray (not much tho) when almost dry. Then to touch up my scrunching my hair and fluffing with my hands, I used just a tiny dab of the aveda pomade (mostly just on the ends). Hair looks pretty darn good.
I'll see what happens in the morning. But the be curly and sap moss styling spray are going back tomorrow.
This is the first time I've tried arc angell and I really like it so far - for the first use. I LOVE the smell too.
Trying to decide on the other deva products.... I dont think i can use the no poo since it has wheat amino acids OR is that the same thing as wheat protein?? My hair gets dried out with wheat proteins.

What a bummer!! You know..your hair probably still looked good...just different.
But you sound like me!! Head in the sink undoing things that I have done!
I have only been able to use BE curly but the other aveda stuff did to me what happened to you.
I have been a massive new product try lately. So, my head has been in the sink quite a bit over the past few months!!

The be curly has a cone you have to either sulfate or if you're like me clarify to get out. That ACV or lemon crap don't cut it. It's like glued to the hair. As long as you scrub it out it's fine but if you don't it will cause stuff to sit on top of your hair and look gunky and greasy. Dimethicone does that to my hair too. Oh and bees wax that's too high on the list.

For some the A cone will do that after a while but you can no poo and get that out thankfully.

Be Curly gave me enough frizz when my hair became longer that I don't really use it anymore. With short hair (therefore, younger hair), I had less frizz, and it provided curl boosting unparallelled by other products (as long as my hair was short, that is).

The Sap Moss Spray did really well when sprayed in my hand and raked in then scrunched. A little goes a long way. The oils in this can get overpowering if I apply it straight onto my hair as a spray or overapply. I like this in warmer temps more than cooler ones.

HTH!

I was wondering about the A cone that is in OneC. But if it can be washed out without sulfates then I guess that's ok.
What about the beeswax -- it's in SIF! Will I need to use a sulfate poo to get that out??
Laurabeth: I thought about maybe keeping the sap spray but I think it's just too heavy for my hair. I tried spraying it on my hands and scrunching it in but it still left me looking greasy. My stylist made it work -- which is frustrating!

The A-cone is stubborn, but I've done okay with sulfate-free poos (like Jessicurl HCC) when it's lower in the ingreds (like OneC but not GF which was amodimethicone-intense for me). As for the beeswax, I haven't tried SIF yet for thay reason. I have had a real issue removing beeswax in the past. At some point, I'll break down and try SIF, but so far, I haven't gotten brave enough to.

As for the Sap Spray, you may want to ask your stylist for tips on use (since she would want to help rather than have you return it), unless you're getting to the end of your return window.

I've never had luck with any aveda stuff -- hair stuff. I love the facial products but that's about it.
That's ok... I'll take it back.
I was kind of leary about that beeswax! Isn't there beeswax in some of the other deva products?? I'll have to go and recheck ingredients on line.
What other kind of spray or whatever can I replace my SIF with?
I feel like I need an enhancer to go on before the arc angell.

It's the curl junkie stuff that has wax in it. Maybe not all but some for sure do

It's also in the deva SIF but it's kind of low on the list so maybe it'll be ok...

medusahair 12-08-2006 05:17 PM

Yep I knew it was in the SIF I just don't think it's in the other products.
But then they tend to throw in things to surprise me. I'll be going along using a product and get funky hair and look and dang it if they don't have wax or umm mineral oil or something in it argh!

Darby 12-08-2006 05:37 PM

ahh ok. Do you think it's a problem in the SIF?
I don't like castor oil either. But it's got PEG with it. My hair doesn't do well with it and I really want to get the no poo. I think the low poo has a cone and the no poo has PEG castor oil -- correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not looking at the ingredient list right now.

I'm sorry that happened to your hair! I hate when that happens after all that work on it.

How long until OneC or Set it Free start to build up from the cone and bees wax? Both are lower on the list, and I didn't know how much they affect different hair types.
