Some questions

So, I've decided to follow CG method but I'm confused about some things.

1)I wanna go no-poo rutin but I found ONE(and only) silicone in my co's.It's called bis-aminopropyl dimethicone. It's not in the first 5 ingredients though. But I can't find information about it.Is it water soluble or not?Is this going to build up?Should I avoid it?

2) I haven't seen any information about mineral oil in CG's articles.I use Brylcreem with protein and paraf.liq. is the second ingredient.I love the way my hair looks with this( soft+not frizzy at all) BUT is it going to build up while CG ?? I saw somewhere that while cones block moisture in AND out, oils block only IN.
It's the only one that've worked in humidity days, btw.

3) mousses with CG friendly ingredients are ok?Cause I see u recomend only gels..

4)Since some oils (coconut) penetrate into hair shaft, are they able to SEAL moisture?
And if an oil DOES seal in the moist..Is it water soluble? So that I can co wash after..

5) We seal in the moisture(with oil) and THEN put styling product or vice versa??

6) before I straighten my hair (iron) Can I apply oil?
I find it does the trick and take the frizz away...but I read that it can actually fry the hair...wtf?

Thank you all

A silicone is still a silicone, not matter where it is in the ingredient list. Here's a Curl Chemist article that answers your question: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlre...ized-silicones Her conclusion is, "It would be necessary to use a shampoo containing one of the lauryl or laureth sulfates or cocamidopropyl betaine to completely remove this silicone from the hair, which may be of concern to those who prefer to use only conditioner-cleansing methods."

Mineral oil is an individual experience. My hair HATES it. I have great difficulty removing it, even with lowpoo and it takes my hair a week to ten days to get back to normal--when I've made the mistake of not reading ingredient lists. It's your choice whether you try to use it in a cowash routine.

Mousse with CG ingredients is okay to use. My stylist (of 30 years), advices against mousse because the propellant ingredient can also be drying.

Using oils is also an individual experience. So people are able to use them and some aren't. Some can use some oils and not others. People who seal, usually put their "sealing" product on first. It's all trial and error.

Sorry to be ambiguous, curly hair is an art with science involved.

It would help you a lot to determine your hair properties, especially texture and porosity. This thread will help you with that: Texture, Porosity, and other Hair Type Madness It will take you to Struttswife's website. Her ebook would be a good investment for you. All the information, to start, in one place.

thanx for the answer..I checked it

I think My hair are EXTREMELY porous...maybe that's why when I apply mineral oil,the next day it has disappeared (!!?)..I think it's absorbing anything I put on it.
The texture is a medium to coarse.I think my natural texture is coarse but there are also medium parts because of chemical processes...
As for the type I think it's a 2c/3a

Ok..Where can i find infos about the appropriate products for each texture/porosity ?
Struttswife's ebook has all that information. Here's where you can buy it: http://www.livecurlylivefree.com/e_book.htm

2)Mineral oil should definitely be avoided. It's a cheap filler ingredient that does not moisturize in the long run.

3) CG friendly mousses are ok. Some curlies find the alcohol in them drying.

4)Natural oils are recommended for CG. Like Coconut oil and EVOO. Those are the only ones I've used and they have never built up. You want to make sure you still scrub your scalp and hair well since it is easy to forget when you only use condish..

5)No two curly heads are the same. You have to find what works best for you by experimenting. I put in coconut oil first then my stylers, but some are vice versa.

6)If you are going to straighten your hair, silicones are the most protective. Natural oils can protect too but not as much. I would search for heat protection on the forums.

And you really should visit livecurlylivefree.com. I learned a lot there (but I didn't buy the ebook.)

Thank you for answering
First of all I visited the site and I actually bought the book....But it didn't help me that much...
I mean,I had already read all these..

The problem is..I think I have extremely porous hair,no matter how much I moisture an put CG friendly styling products, they end up with frizz, dryness and flyaways.
I tried coconut as a sealant but it didn't work.I tried jojoba and gave me pretty smooth hair!
I first spritz with a glycerin-water mix and then seal with jojoba...It gives great smoothness but it smells a little

But when it comes to styling to achieve a good hold NOTHING seems to work except mineral oil...I found BRYLCREEM with protein the most effective styling product for my hair,,,But it has mineral oil

I tried gels but they are very drying! And my hair become very very rough!(And frizzy after a while..)

The weird think is that the next day all the shine and oiling feel have disappeared!Does this mean that my hair absorbs mineral oil???
If so I guess I can continue using it while cg (?)

Or I should keep up with cg friendly styling even if my hair sucks?I mean, after a while that my hair will get better through cg routine MAYBE it will be effective...
I don't know...I'm confused & desperate
