Default Another Spilt End Question...

I know that once the ends are split, cutting them off is the only thing that will fix it, but can you slow the rate at which they split? For example, if you blow out and flat iron your hair everyday, will the ends split faster? Will keeping your hair in good shape slow the splitting?

If I get my hair cut every 3-4 months, I dont get split ends at all.

I know that brushing causes split ends.

If you are already getting those split ends it means your hair has already weakened and it's "crying" for help. You can try some heavy-duty deep conditioning (i.e., a protein-rich "masque" with moisturizers and natural oils) which may temporarily "patch up" your damaged cuticle but the truth is that if you continue to daily "bake" your hair with a blow dryer and "grill" it with a flat iron those "well done" ends may soon start to break off in pieces so you'd have to get them trimmed off often.

To encourage you to start thinking of "retiring" your thermal tools, here's some pictures of what your hair probably looks like under a microscope: http://www.pg.com/science/haircare/hair_twh_73.htm. When you get done looking at that page click "next" so you can see a few more "wonderful" pics like it.

Hopefully this will motivate you to let your curls rest...

I just thought maybe you're not talking about yourself, right? I noticed you are (or were) on CG. Well, if this is a friend or relative, show her the pics anyway!

Well, sort of. My hair is healthy, and I am CG. I call myself a modifed CG because I use amodimethicone, but it doens't build up on me and I shampoo wit a sulfate-free poo once a week (along with a DT) Yesterday, I flat ironed my hair for the fist time in a while, then I trimmed the ends. (I'll make a new thread and post pics so you can see) I still have splits, but I don't want to chop off an inch or two yet, I want my hair to grow out some more. I'm going to make the ironed hair last untill Monday, and then go back to my regular routine.
