Default Deep conditioning questions?

I ordered a heat cap but its not here yet so would it still work some to do without?

Do I wash it out after? With shampoo or just rinse? Do I still add my regular rinse out conditioner, and leave in? I just don't want to over condition.

I would love to hear what steps you all take to deep condition!!

It will still work without the heat cap it just works better with it.
You don't need to wash after a DT just rinse out and no other conditioner needed unless you have super dry hair and then you can use a leave in I suppose but I never do.

I want to get a heat cap! I've been wanting to try DT'ing with one for awhile. Let me know how it works for you! Hope its not to late, but I just wanted to add that I would shampoo or ACV rinse my hair before doing a DT. Give it a clean slate to work with so it can better penetrate.

Nope, not too late! i'm being lazy. So do you think any shampoo or are you saying one with sulfates? I don't have any ACV right now and we are moving to another state on Friday and I don't want to go grocery shopping since I gotta throw everything like that out anyway.

I can't wait to get my heat cap! I want to get my hair in good condition sooooo bad!

Keep us updated on the heatcap! It took me about a year before I broke down and got one -- I am glad I did. I do a DT with either the Ouidad DT or CJ Deep Fix about once a week. I love it!

Are you doing a protein-based DT? If so, be sure to condition afterwards. Otherwise the extra protein that's not absorbed into the hair shafts will make your hair feel rough.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a sulfate shampoo, unless thats what you want to use. As long as whatever shampoo you use, gets out the ingredients from your styling product.

I think I need to ask Santa for a heat cap!

It's NOT a good idea to do an acid rinse before a DT as that tightens the cuticle, preventing the CO from penetrating well, especially if a heat cap is not used. If the person needs to clarify at all, the baking soda rinse is the one to use (or adding baking soda to a CO and washing with that) as alkaline substances OPEN the cuticle (that's why it makes the hair feel rough).

For those that own a bonnet dryer, you can put on a plastic cap and sit under the dryer for 10 minutes, wrap with a towel turban style and wait another 15-20 mins. When I'm too lazy to drag mine out of the closet I fold a moist hand towel inside a shower cap and heat it up in the microwave for 45-60 seconds, then I plop that on top of the other plastic shower cap covering my head, secure it with a clip and cover with my Turbie Twist". Sometimes I will remove it and reheat again but that's not absolutely necessary.
