Why does my hair get tangled and dry when I wake up??

When I wake up my hair is dry and really tangled. How do i fix this problem? Could it be my pillow case? The one I have is not Satin.

Thanks

ETA: Wait...I didn't know you were a dude...lol! You may not want to wear a bonnet...they have satin bandanas too though...or like a doo rag.

Does a satin pillowcase make that much of a difference? I hadn't realized. I sleep in a pineapple, but my hair is dry and frizzy when I wake up too. A satin pillowcase will make a difference in that?
That's me with FSG as my styler!!

Hey, Dylan! I got a silk pillowcase on ebay. I think it makes a difference. I got one in dark brown-they had lots of other masculine colors-black, gray, navy.
Sally Beauty has satin ones but I have to worry about static and theirs were polyester satin so I opted for silk. I think the Sallys by me had white...and pink!

JJChick, if I were to get a satin pillowcase, what should I avoid? Can I just pick one up at like Macy's or is there a blend I should avoid?

Thanks for the help everyone!
Anna's Linens usually has the silk satin (not polyester) and FYI - silk builds up static too for about $7 each in a wide variety of colors.

Would wearing a silk scarf/wrap work just as well? I like my cotton pillowcases and don't plan to replace them, and bonnets make me feel silly.
2a, very fine, very thick, protein-loving, not especially porous. cg since july 2010.

cleanse: cj daily fix, vo5 vanilla mint tea

techniques: icequeen, plopping, scrunching upside down, pixie diffusing
So its silk satin I should look for, and silk polyester I should avoid? But be aware that silk satin still creates static?

The pillowcase I have is 100% silk (19 momme) and so far has not caused any static at all. I've never had static issues with silk clothing either, but I suppose anything is possible.
Saroyan, I opted for the case over a cap because even though I've managed to find a few made from silk, I'd feel silly wearing one too . If you can get a slippery silk scarf to say on your head it should work just fine.

The thing is to keep your hair from coming into direct contact with that lovely moisture absorbing "fabric of our lives" cotton... The same reasons that cotton is great for towels make it HORRIBLE for curly hair.

Bonnet, pillow case, scarf, do-rag...

Doesn't really matter what you use, just keep the locks off the cotton....
