Curlier without product
Is anybody's hair curlier without product? I've been experimenting a bit and today only used beauty without cruelty conditioner, left a little in and no styler. I liked the results and my hair seemed even curlier than when I use products?! I had a little frizz, but I don't mind some frizz and I really liked the natural look and all my ringlets fell into place. Anybody else's hair do this?

I was just thinking today about posting something on this!
I saw some pics of me when I was little and my hair was so curly and cute, and I asked myself what the difference was, and I realized that it was that I just let it do it's thing!
I've been just leaving in a bit of conditioner in with a drop of honey and it is curlier...I have really light bouncy cute curls without product, just like when I was little
I sprayed a teeny bit of SIF about midday to help with frizz, but I think that was mostly needed because I can't keep my hands out of my hair.

That is so wild! I have been thinking (amongst the other million products) about trying SIF again as well...I just can't imaging an almost productless routine...my hair dried in record time too!
I think I am going to do a search...I know there was a forum thread about people who are productless (which I ignored because I never thought I could do that) so I can see what their routines are/were.
Thanks for reminding me of SIF!! I'm going to have to get that.

Re: Curlier without product
Ditto. Most definitely ditto.

I KNOW! I remember seeing the product-free thread and it never crossed my mind that I could try it.
I'm a bit of a PJ, so I didn't even consider wanting to cut back!

I have noticed this myself recently. I have been just using Jesscurl HCC and Jessicurl Too Shea, plopping and then air drying and that is it. I have noticed that I am getting almost Shirley Temple corkscrews which is odd since I am a 3a but when my hair dries it looks very 3b. Frankly, I don't get it.

Shortly after I started CG and started using a "natural" CO my hair curled and behaved so well I stopped using gel (which I've never really liked anyway) and I could even have 2nd day hair too. It was HEAVENLY to just blot my hair a little and then leave my hair alone to dry. I rarely can do that since I lightened my hair, I'm hoping that maybe another natural CO will do that for me in the future but first I need to finish at least one of the many I now have!

The magic combo for me seems to be Jessicurl GLS, and the Aloeba as a leave in :P :P :P
Soft hair, less drying time, great 2nd day!!
Everyone should at least try going productless and see what happens

I agree, in fact I did do it a few times this year with the last of my Avalon Organics Lavender (old formula), I usually put a little extra on as leave-in and it moisturizes my hair just right. Come think of it I haven't done it in a long time. I still have like half a bottle, maybe it'll work again... I have to rinse today so I think I'll do a "Lemon-Aid" with it just to be sure I remove all traces of the gel I used yesterday.
Lorraine said once that she stopped using styling products long ago, therefore, she has no need to clarify, ever (and neither did I). Another thing she pointed out and which I experienced during my first year doing CG is not needing to DT; when you don't use stuff that can dry your hair out and your normal CO is nourishing enough it's very possible, at least part of the year. One can't ask for a simpler way to care for our hair!

So, Lorraine doesn't use product in her hair??
I can sometimes get away with it but I will never get second day hair without product. Well, that's not completely true. When I'm in Hawaii, I will get second, and third day hair without product but not here in the DRY air.

That's what she said... But maybe she really does sometimes because weather changes and special occasions may require a bit more control.

I've been able to use Too Shea! as a leave-in/styler and my hair can have some pretty nice waves/curls/ringlets in it. I've also had success just using Biosilk Smoothing Balm (CG) as a leave-in/styler and had some nice hair.
If I could kill the PJ monster or quit coming to this site, I'd probably be fine with either of those products alone .
But I just don't see that happenin' .

i don't know if my hair is more curly without product, but it's definitely just as curly. i stopped using product a while ago, because i was tired of the inconsistency. i like my hair a lot better now. it seems, like someone else said, bouncier and lighter. it also just feels more free.
i rarely get frizz as long as my hair is properly moisturized (and not overconditioned or buit-up). if i get a little humidity frizz or whatever, i just use a smidge of pomade.
it's really liberating to be product-free.

I use very little stuff in my hair too. My hair seems to curl just as much or maybe more without products. It does get a little straighter during the day though, but it I use just a tiny, tiny amount of shea butter my curls lasts and my hair really seems to like this.
Strangely enough my hair gets frizzier with gel a lot of the time. I have noticed that my hair looks pretty frizzy while it dries (and that is the way the gel kinda makes it stay) but gets less frizzy when it has dried completely. So if I don't use a gel the frizz goes away. Gel and cremes has always weighed my hair down bad and seems to make the top layer curl less. With just the little bit of leave in and the tiny amount of shea butter it looks better.
Well, so my hair seems to curl more (ETA: I wrote 'less' instead of 'more' here.) the less amount of stuff I use in it.
I still have to clarify every month though. We have really hard water at this house and after a while my hair gets straighter and hangs/droops more from the minerals. My hair doesn't seem to mind the occational clarifyings I do though.
