Ion Reconstructor?

Does anyone have experience with the Ion Reconstructor protein treatment? I want to try a PT, so I was looking on Sally's website (yay free shipping and 25% off!) for one. I've found several threads about the GVP version of K-Pak, but that has mineral oil in it, which I am trying to avoid. The Ion looks to be CG, here's the ingredient list:

WATER ,DISODIUM COCOAMPHODIPROPIONATE ,PROPYLENE GLYCOL ,LECITHIN ,POLYQUATERNIUM-10 ,MAGNESIUM SULFATE ,METHYLPARABEN ,COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE ,GLYCOL STEARATE ,CITRIC ACID ,FRAGRANCE ,IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA ,ZINC CHLORIDE ,MANGANESE CHLORIDE ,POLYSORBATE 20 ,TRICLOSAN ,CARAMEL ,YELLOW 5 ,PANTHENOL ,HYDROLYZED KERATIN

Ion - Repair Solutions - Ion Reconstructor 20oz.

Thoughts? I have seen posts about the Ion Effective Care, which looks like it is also a CG-PT, but with a different kind of protein (vegetable instead of keratin). I haven't found anything on the forums about the Ion Reconstructor though. Both have mostly positive reviews on Sally's. At least you can buy either in a 1oz packet, so if I hate it I'm not stuck with a huge bottle - but if I love it, they DO sell it in a huge bottle

My curls do seem to like protein and I think since I went CG a little over a month ago they may now be a little over-conditioned. I welcome your opinions and recommendations!

beautifulRain, I was just researching this as well because I bought some Ion hair color and want to start doing regular PT's. My issue with the ingredients was how chemical laden they were. I have a sensitive scalp and just reading the ingredients made me itch From what I see (and I am no expert) there are only 2 or 3 proteins listed, and one is last on the list. The rest seem to be filler and some I know are not too "healthy". That being said, it does get good reviews! And it's cheap. Maybe it's worth a try if you are not a stickler for natural products.

I ended up swapping one of my products so I could get SS Reparing Protein Treatment. Sorry this is not a very helpful reply, just my take on it

I haven't used the Reconstructor, so I can't speak to that. The nice thing about these products is you can buy a sample packet and try it. I actually bought a full-sized bottle because it was on sale for $5.

I didn't like the K-Pak, I think because of the mineral oil. There are some good homemade recipes for PTs on here that I've thought of trying. You might want to try one of those.

Haha, it just goes to show once again how every product works differently depending on your hair type. I say if it works well for you then go for it. My only issue with the Ion is that i am attempting to use more natural products whenever possible. Oh how it would have been nice just to order a few sample packets of this stuff though

I have somewhat sensitive skin and can have reactions to some botanicals, so I try to make sure there are few of them in my products or if they are there, they are well down the list of ingredients.

Thanks for the CQ. Now I don't have to move my bottle in and out of the shower when doing my hair each morning!

Edit: Post 12 says ingredients on the package are different then the ingredients listed online. There is more protein in this then listed online.

The Ion reconstructor doesn't have much protein. It is the very last ingredient. There is less protein in there then there is Yellow 5 (colorant). I tried it as a cleansing conditioner once. Turns out my hair hates mag sulfate, so I can't really report on how well it works as a cleansing conditioner.
I use the Ion effective care as a PT and really like it.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I think I'll get a sample of each to try (why not?) and look into some of those home recipes also.

I use it frequently and really like it-- it definitely seems to perk up my curls. That being said, I'm not a fan of all the chemicals and am planning to buy the SS PT next time around. Also, I had never realized that there wasn't a lot of protein in it-- this makes sense because I add TONS to my hair and use it every couple days and never feel like I've overdone it. It also doesn't seem to dry my hair out at all...

I use Ion Reconstructor and Ion Effective Hair Care.
Hair Care is a moisture and protein treatment. Reconstructor is just a protein.
Are you looking for a protein treatment?

crimsonshedemon, thanks for the suggestion, I am looking for primarily a protein treatment. I had looked at the ApHOGEE but it has Amodimethicone... otherwise the ingredients look really nice.

What about the Neutral Protein Filler - it says: Can be used to make an "excellent protein hair reconstructing conditioner" by diluting it with 1/3 water. Has anyone tried it? Is it CG? Sally's doesn't list the ingredients...

I just wanted to follow up on this, I finally tried the Ion Reconstructor about a week ago. Unless they've reformulated, the ingredients list on Sally's isn't the same as what was on the package. The Keratin is much higher up in the list: Water, propylene glycol, disodium cocoamphodipropinate, lecithin, polyquaternium-10, polysorbate 20, magnesium sulfate, hydrolyzed keratin, panthenol, manganese chloride, sinc chloride, cocamidopropyl betaine, glycol stearate, citric acid, triclosan, methylparaben, imidazolidinyl urea, fragrance, amyl cinnamal, coumarin, eugenol, limonene, linalool, hexyl cinnamal, yellow 5, caramel

My hair responded well to the Reconstructor. I have some pics on my blog. I would repost them here, but I'm at work now and photobucket is blocked I still have the Effective Care to try, and a Queen Helene Jojoba Hot Oil tube (which has Keratin Amino Acids in it though I'm not sure it counts as a PT), plus I really want to try the Ion Moisturizing Treatment and Neutral Protein Filler plus maybe some of the ones others have listed too... It's fun to experiment!
