curlers

Ok. I hope this isn't a completely crazy quetsion, but does anyone use curlers in their hair to define their curls. I'm just so frustrated with my hair at the moment.... I use LA looks and fructis curl cream but if i try to use a defuser my curls frizz and i HATE letting my hair air dry beacuse it takes hours. so iwas thinking that i could jsut put it in curlers and sit under this hairdryer thing i have. well just wondering if anyone else uses them and what kind they have and how they use them... like do you put gel in your hair before the curlers or after... ok well any feedback would be appreciated!!! thanks so much!

I use velcro rollers on the top of my hair because that part tends to frizz and I don't like it to be too curly on that section. I don't use any products in my hair before I roll that part of my hair. I put my products in when my hair is soaking wet and then diffuse it somewhat dry and then let it air dry. Then I roll that top section up in about 6 large velcro rollers.

Not crazy at all, this is a subject that resurfaces every so often because curlers (IMO) are a great invention and roller sets are a healthy alternative for styling hair. I still have saved in my computer pages I copied from my beauty book with illustrations/instructions on how to do a roller set that I sent to a few curlies who wanted to learn how to do it a couple of years ago. :)

I grew up using them all the time and have used them in the past because for a few days I can have nice hair without having to re-wet it or anything. When I lightened my hair in '03 it suffered considerable damage so it wouldn't curl well and it was breaking so I bought a hood dryer and started doing roller sets every so often, it did help save my self esteem to be able to have decent hair sometimes!

This year I've had a lot of bad hair days but I've had no energy to do hardly any roller sets. I can't even remember if I've sat under a dryer or not, all I remember is using curlers once after using a dryer brush to straighten and maybe a couple of times after my curls didn't turn out right. I just brushed my dry hair and sectioned it, then sprayed a little water on the hair before rolling it, using fewer rollers, so the effect was not as good as when I do it from scratch.

Not a crazy question at all. I am here searching for a thread on magnetic rollers.I find that using curlers/rollers give me looser and smoother curls with lots of volume when dry set. If set when wet, all I can say is BOING! (snicker) Velcro rollers are not good on my hair, they are partly to blame for the mess of a top layer I have right now. It's getting better. I HATE product but am really diggin Redken Fresh curls. Even the dried out top layer is responding to it and it is not weighing my hair down.
