Default Is Your Hair Thinner On One Side?

Over the past few years, I've noticed that the hair on the right side of my head is considerably thinner than the hair on the left side of my head. It's especially noticeable when my hair is wet, and then sort of blends in when its dry. I find this to be so annoying, even though nobody else notices it but me.

So, has anybody else experienced this?

What could it be from? Or is this just a natural thing?

Mine isn't thinner on one side or the other, but I notice when it gets long that the middle of the back of my head (the length) is thinner. I used to think it was from the way my hair was cut, but now I'm not so sure, because I noticed it many years ago, and I'm noticing it again now that my hair is almost BSL. (I'm sure my hair isn't cut the same as it was then)

I'm wondering if it's maybe the way we sleep on it or something? But maybe it is just a natural growth thing. It bugs the crap out of me though.

Mine is too. When I was getting my ends clipped not too long ago my stylist asked if I slept on my right side. (I usually don't) then she also asked the direction I wrap my hair (since I'm not 100% natural), and that was the problem. The constant straining and stretching cause my hair to break off more on one side. She suggested I change the direction I wrapped my hair often.

I don't have hair that's thinner on one side or another, but I do have hair that curls better on one side. WEIRD! I didn't realize it before, but I think I put more conditioner on the side of my hair that curls up better and less on the side of my hair that isn't as curly. (I usually flip my hair over to one side of my neck and put CO on that way.)

Jennycurl, mine is thicker on the left and thinner on the right, too. Are you right handed? A girl at my work said one day that if right handed your left boob would be the bigger one and left side of your hair thicker.

Not sure if always true but it was true for everyone around that day!

Yes, I'm right handed, and ironically enough, that's all true! How weird! But what I can't understand is how I never noticed it until about a year ago and I really wonder if there's anything I can do to fix it.

I'm unevenly thick too. My right side is considerably thicker and more curly. It is especially noticeable right after a hair cut - the stylist often does not cut the layers symmetrically (even my best cuts at a good stylist). Maybe the density difference messes with the layering angles?

Things that have helped: Self touch up cut - pull small clumps of hair from equivalent sides of the head toward nose, cut if uneven. Treat the sides a little different - for example, I used CJ Curl fuel (on a moderate dew point day) on my thin side (2nd day) and scrunched up to curl it up and make it superficially look as curly and volumous as the other side. I don't know if this really works, but clean, stimulated follicles grow better - so maybe massaging (firmly, not a lot of back and forth scrubbing or scratching) the thin side more, or using a more effective cleansing agent on the thin side would be good (I hope I remember to try this). On the flip side, vigorous scrubbing can cause hair loss - DIYDo, DIYDon't.

Does anyone know exactly how to massage during washing to promote follicle cleansing, buildup removal, and scalp stimulation - but avoid scalp irritation, cuticle damage, and hair breakage? Is massaging firmly, not a lot of back and forth scrubbing, conditioner-washing equivalent to shampoo washing?

Some skin issues can lead to patchy thinning and are worth seeing a dermatologist about and getting cured - alopecia areata (sp?), dermatitis, clogged follicles, so many...

Everyone is lopsided here and there...

I always wondered why the sides of my hair never looked the same! I got a deva cut and my hair stylist noted that I have more hair on one side than the other! I just part my hair on the side so that no one can really tell

Just did a boob test. Definitely true for me. True for my roommate too. We also asked her boyfriend about his boobage, but the tests came back inconclusive, which is the scientific term for "he hung up on us".

But I have no idea about the thickness of my hair on either side. I've never really paid attention to it, so I guess it's normal on either side. I have a deep side part though, so maybe it's hard to tell.

My hair seems thinner on the right because I part my hair on that side. Next time I wash I will part on the other side and see what happens.

I wonder if there's any truth to that? If so it makes sense in my case. My hair has been feeling thicker on the left side and my left boob is bigger! Of course I think it's also cuz, when I'm squeezing my hair out, I pull it to the left side and then squeeze. I'm working on gathering my hair on the right side instead of the left so it won't get worse.
