Thanks for the info, 2poodles.

I just bought the book and one for my stylist. Thought he'd like it. Hope it comes before my rescheduled appointment next Friday!

You got the correct one if you ordered the second edition. I'm not even sure if the 1st edition is even available anymore. The date they gave was an estimated date and since it was ready earlier, I got it before I thought I would. Love that sort of happy accident!

I just watched the dvd - I thought it was very helpful. I especially liked how it showed the quantities of products used for different types of hair and lengths of hair and the techniques for achieving the different up-dos. I also enjoyed the before and afters.

This morning I followed the techniques suggested for my type of hair and used a LOT more gel than I have in the past. My hair's not quite dry yet, but I like it a lot so far!

The hair recipes are still there, expanded and updated. Raw eggs (a potential source of salmonella) are replaced with powdered eggs.

The cutting information goes well beyond tips. It's a full trim, and is covered very well in the book and on the DVD. Seeing the before, in progress, and after is really amazing, even to someone who's had a number of Deva cuts. I've only trimmed my face frames once, and my bangs a few times, but after reading the well illustrated information in the book, I know I can do this! Wow, talk about empowerment!

I just ordered after I saw amazon's sample pages of the book. I was hesitant to buy this until it came out because I was a little afraid it might be just one long ad for devacurl products....which my hair hates.

Thanks for posting all of the info. I've been waiting for the 2nd book to come out. I'm going to Borders or Barnes & Nobles this week to get it!

The first book really changed my life! I had no idea how to deal with my 3b/c curls and straightened them for almost 30 years! I've been curly for the last 5 years (since reading her book) and I'm loving it! I get compliments all the time! Who would have thought?

I'm most looking forward to the hair cutting information!

Fractal - love it! Will definitely buy or borrow the book.

For those who have the new book - how does she do on naturally coily/kinky hair? I wasn't impressed with her chapter in the original book although her general advice for curlies worked for me.

Cala Renee told me she is hosting a book tour appearance for Lorraine either at her salon in Beverly or a larger place close by - save the date! 2/7/11 12:30 -2:30pm

Default I got mine

The cd is inside the cover. Haven't read it but flipped thru and it looks different. At a quick glance it didn't seem to be an advertisement.

Sounds interesting, even for someone (like me) who isn't cg. Unfortunately I suspect the dvd won't play over here which is a shame.

Hey guys i saw this post and ordered my copy from amazon right away. I was sad though because today when it came my copy of the curly girl book was all dented and bent. Ugh i hate when things get messed up during shipping.

Yayyy min arrived today! I read the whole thing immediately. I couldn't help myself. The trimming tips were great as I desperately need one.

I haven't watched the DVD because my player is broken, but I'm thinking I can watch it on the computer through the Xbox (my comp. disc drive is broken too!!!)

So excited!

Funny thing....

I also purchased another beauty book, and there's a whole section on hair product recommendations, and I read through the list and said : "can't use that....that has sulfates...that has silicones....that has mineral oil...."

Amazing how much I've learned in the path 2 months since I started looking at this site!

Hmm, never thought of that. I'm a bit of a technophobe so I really don't know - will have to do a bit of research.

I also wasn't interested in the first one- I flipped through it at a bookstore awhile ago and didn't care for it.

However, I placed an order for the new one this morning, I figured at $10 and having amazon prime it'd be worth a shot- all the new additions and information is what got me! And if it's a flop, I'm sure it'll go on the swap board easily enough.

So does the DVD play OK in a regular DVD player? I'm confused about the comments regarding it not playing...or are those from non-US curlies (I know sometimes there are issues with formatting from US to other countries and vice versa). Thanks for clarifying.
