is it just me or do these curls look horrible?

ive been browsing websites for pics of possible hairstyles to show my stylist when i get my hair cut on tuesday, and i came across this ^^^
in the thumbnail it looked quite wild and messy and nice, but upclose i realise its REALLY crispy, with weird frizz, and just looks WRONG. and whats with the straight-ends-that-have-been-done-on-purpose?

Whew they've twisted some of her curls all out of shape into tight little umm dunno twists or something. Her hair does look pretty crispy.
I say you not do that to your hair

That looks AWFUL!  Gosh even when my hair was super crunchy the other day because I put too much gel in it it didn't look that bad! Ugh! I so agree with you  EXTREMELY crunchy, weird frizz!!! And I also agree with Medusahair: DON'T DO THAT TO YOUR HAIR! :P

thankyou all for telling me i'm not crazy, and it is just plain awful.
it's not even like a messed up, dirty look that looks good!! sometimes i envy models when they have frizz and tugs but it looks sexy. it just looks plain wrong - like they couldnt decide what to do. 'crisp clean curls, or frizzy mess? hell lets just do both!'
and dont worry, i wont be doing anything like that to my hair

That just looks...weird! Really crispy and odd...very glutinous, like she used some icky paste from Kindergarten and spread it through her hair. Blechh
