Curl Junkie or Spiral Solutions???

I did use my AOGPB and AOHR first before getting highlighted and noticed my hair was limp and lifeless....so after reading many reviews on nc.com I decided the AOHR might be too moisturizing for me to use as a DT so I re-washed the next day with a low poo and did a rinse out with the AOGPB and my curls popped right back.

Any reason to wait 10 days before doing a PT and DT after highlighting?

Doing a protein treatment with heat (which is how I used to do protein treatments after coloring/highlighting) immediately after highlighting could affect the color. If you do a search, you can probably find more explanation on this - something about breaking down bonds, etc., etc., - I can't remember exactly. Now, usually all I do is use CJ Repair me a week before coloring and then again a week or so after I just use CJ Repair Me in the shower and leave on for 10 minutes or so and follow with a little CJ Rehab - seems to be fine for keeping my hair in shape. I haven't been doing treatments with heat as often as I used to; if I feel my hair needs it and I'm feeling ambitious, I will do a heat treatment.

Thanks Cyndi- I pm'd Rymorg since she is the expert, and I couldn't find a definite answer in that long thread I remember reading before too.

Do you have the CJ Beauticurls Strengthening conditioner? This is one of my absolute favorites that I've been using regularly and the protein and moisture is so well balanced, it's been keeping my hair in great shape.

I didn't get a sample of that conditioner ( I may have to try in the future ) but I did get an answer to my question! Rymorg pm'd me and said if it is just highlights you can do a PT/DT the next day, but if I had any low lights as well ( which I did ) then I should wait another 24 hours. I knew she would know exactly what to do since she's the expert! Thanks for reminding me about her girls!

Sorry if you've read this on another thread, I seem to be involved in 3 diff. threads regarding this subject and more!

I'm shocked! The CQ worked really well for me! And I thought I was sensitive to wheat proteins. It actually gave me great definition clumps and curls.

CJ Aloe fix lt.- didn't give me much definition, gave me some frizz and didn't feel like much hold.

CCCClt.-I got a lot of volume from this but no root curl and some frizz on top, the rest of my hair had some nice curls but poofy looking overall.

CIAB-LOVE IT!!! Gave me beautiful clumps, spirals and shiny curls! Felt like it would even have enough hold for me, if not, I could try with a little CQ or SS FHG.

Haven't tried the PT's ( Curl fix or Repair me) or the DT Rehab yet, so many products, so little time!!!

Of course this is my first assessment only...I'm going to use these for the week and then place my order.

The Aloe lite might be a good high dew product, given how much glycerin it contains, so it might be worth trying it again in summer. I found the regular Aloe helpful to SOTC and tame frizz in high humidity (though a bit heavy, so Aloe lite might be perfect).

I think I will try the combo of the CCCC lt. and the CQ, thanks for the idea!

I just tried the CJ repair me and it didn't seem to do any more than the AOGPB, maybe a little more moisturizing but the curls seem to react the same.

CCCC lite + BRHG is my all-time #1 styling routine for reliability. During low to medium dews, it always gives me great hair. If I want to boost the curl even more, I add some protein, either by using protein in my rinse out, or by mixing a little Curl Fix with the CCCC lite, or by substituting CQ for the BRHG. In the summer, I like using regular CCCC with Abba pure finish gel (which is another high-protein gel).

Thanks! Actually it sounds like I didn't use enough, you never know with these creamy curl creams like when I use alba botanica soft style cream or even Giovanni direct leave in ( not a curl cream per say ) I only use a pea size. So I'll try it with more....it's raining today, pretty unusual for Arizona I know so we'll see how it holds up!

Update-So I think my hair doesn't like something in the CCCC lt. I tried it with the CIAB and I got a lot of volume and curl but it felt very dry and had all over fuzzy look. So I tried it again alone to make sure it was the CCCC lt. and the same thing....no root curl and dry and frizzy/fuzz all over. Doesn't seem to work near as good as the CIAB for me. I'm going to leave the house later and use the CIAB with CQ and see how well it holds up in the rain today,

Well I finally made a decision and order the SS CEJ/FHG and the CJ CIAB and CQ. Those two combos seem to work the best for me. I've been out of my SS samples for the week so it's hard to compare but I think the CIAB/CQ combo has a little more hold. Neither one dries super-crunchy at all and very easy to SOTC. I haven' even used any shaper hairspray that I normally rely on for the final touch-up! Yay!

Of course I tend to lean toward the SS products because they are all natural and when she starts using the new essential oils in them, they will even be better! I want to try the FHG on my little girls waves and get her away from the Biotera if it works as good for her too.

I'm not sure how good either line is in humidity for summer vacations to the beach, but Polyquat-4 is usually the best for me in those conditions and it's in both the FHG and the CQ, so I'll test it out this summer.

Thank you to all of you that helped me figure all this out and for your input, it was sooo helpful! You all are the best!!!

Congrats beebop on finding products that work for you
I'm still holding off making a decision bc I need to see what works best in higher dews (they got up high, almost 70, last week for 2 days and are back down in the 40's the last few days). I believe i will go with a combo of CJ and SS like you. I did get the CJDF and the CJ Strengthening Cond and love both of those

Has anyone else experienced this?.....

I got my full size bottles of SS & CJ products! yea!

I use the SS CEJ/FHG combo yesterday and had nice soft looser looking curls that held all evening.

Then today I used the FHG alone and had a ton of tight boosted curls and spirals that held all evening. Seems to work better alone I guess, I'm not sure why, the only difference in ingredients is the CEJ has the sea salt and agave nectar and the FHG has the polyquat-4, but for some reason I get more curl boost from the FHG. Anyone else tried this and had the same thing happen? My curls are tighter than with the CJ combo of CIAB/CQ even.

When I use FHG alone I get much stronger spirals. I combine it with the CEJ when i want looser curls and waves. CEJ always loosens my curls, I'm not sure why.

Your hair is so pretty by the way! You look like you have a stronger curl pattern than me, but I guess our hair reacts the same to SS, glad to hear it's not only me! By the way I like your hair style...do you have a lot of layers?

The ingredients in the FHG and CEJ are in a different order and there could also be a difference in the amounts of ingredients. Shantelle uses dead sea salts and Jessicurl uses magnesium sulfate - I don't know exactly what the difference is, or if there even is one, but that could explain the frizz factor. I also think the oils in the Jessicurl products caused my hair more problems than the magesium sulfate. I get frizzier and dryer feeling hair with a lot of oils.

Question - do you use a LI when using the FHG alone?

I use CEJ more as a gelly for frizz control and light hold than as a curl enhancer. I really like it over a curl creme - don't need an extra gel on top, and hair feels very light and not at all producty.

Ultimately, I use CEJ the way some people use FSG: either to replace gel entirely when used over a curl cream, or as a "cushion" product in between a leave-in and a medium hold gel (like FHG). However, I have found CEJ more curl-enhancing than FSG, so that's an added bonus.

I've tried CIAB on one side of my hair and CEJ on the other, and find that I get a little more hold/tighter curl with CEJ, but more shine/definition with CIAB. So CEJ is more my go-to product than CIAB, which I tend to use more as a finisher.

I don't know whether FHG is more curl enhancing than CEJ or not, but FHG has more hold, so that might account for the difference (at least in part). I used CEJ once under a hard-hold gel and my hair was very curly, but tangly. So now I always use it with a leave-in.

Also, make sure you're using enough CEJ - I use 3 pumps for hair that is in between shoulder length and BSL when wet.

Interesting...I've found the FHG to leave my hair limp and I get much better wave enhancement from CEJ, but I have to combine it with another product, usually KCCC or DM Curling Gelly.
