Default Newbie with Dry Scalp-Help!

Just went CG about 3 months ago and can't seem to kick this dry scalp! I had the dryness and flakies before going CG but thought that the sulfates and wrong products were the culprit. But I've still seen no difference since going CG-flakes are sticking around
I only cowash about 1-2 times a week.
Could this be product build up that I keep reading about- or just stubborn dry scalp?? Any help or suggestions on a change up of products would be very much appreciated!!

Current Products:
GTTTT shampoo once a week, Cowash: Suave naturals, Rinse out: Tresseme Naturals, leave in: Giovanni Direct leave in, Gels: Herbal Totally twisted or LA looks

Sometimes a dry, flaky scalp means that you are sensitive to something in your products. I get SUPER itchy and flaky when something doesn't agree with my scalp. But, that doesn't sound like the case with you -- how curly is your hair? Most of the time, tighter curls = drier curls. Maybe you could try cutting out your low poo and CO-washing more often to add more moisture to your hair. You might even need to CO-wash with something heavier, like your Tresemme Naturals (do you have the Volumizing one or the Moisture one?). You might also try massaging your scalp with oil the night before you shampoo and washing it out in the morning. Some popular oils on here are sweet almond, jojoba, and coconut, but I like plain old EVOO when I put oil in my hair. Also, your gel could be drying your hair out, too. I used to have the HETT gel, and it dried me out really bad. I gave it to a curly friend who has more naturally moisturized hair.

Thanks for the help! My curls are super tight and filled with spirals. I will try out the oils on my scalp and see if that works. I'm fine with trying some new gels- I didn't really like the HE gel that much anyways!!
It makes me nervous to co-wash more though because of the possible product build-up...

I don't like HETT, either! It didn't have enough hold besides being drying.

CO-washing more does not mean more product buildup. CO-washing more actually means cleansing your hair more, but adding more moisture at the same time! As long as you scrub your scalp well (since the thing you're cleaning your head with is the friction from your fingers) and really rinse everything out, you shouldn't have a problem with product buildup, unless you go way overboard on gels and stylers and leave too much conditioner in your hair.

I would also suggest you co-wash more often. Try it for two weeks and track your results. Also, keep track of which products you're using and see if there's a product linked to your itchy, flaky days

Prior to following my curly hair routine, I'd do the traditional shampoo & condition 1-2 times per week. Now I co-wash 4-5 times a week and low-poo once a week. My scalp isn't dry and the flakiness I'd had for so long disappeared after week one.

Good luck.

My top of the head is super sensitive and I don't know what is it. I live in NM, so it is really dry here, but my scalp is so sensitive, that I can't pull it back (loosely, not even tight) in a different direction, it hurts all the next day. The water from my shower, the pressure, hurts my head, to even wash. I don't know if I'm over shampooing, I was doing low poo every other day, I don't know if I'm scrubbing too hard. But also, even after doing a water wash and not putting any product in afterwards, I have white little specs come off from my scalp if I rub my scalp, varying from little specs like salt to bigger pieces. So then I think dry scalp?? And after lowpoos- it tends to burn slightly in some areas for like the first three minutes after showering. I don't feel clean after showering, I have pain! I'm so frustrated. And I don't think it's a low-poo specifically because I can use one that I used the week before and had no burning, and other days, that same poo causes that burning sensation. Hope someone can help. It's so frustrating to now know what my scalp wants.
