My Hair Loves Conditioner-Only Styling

I'm loving my curl creams and cream-gels
I'm never using a gel, especially a strong one like KCCC, again!
2c/2b with some 2a, coarse, dense, thick, low porosity
Growing out a CL bob. Currently at APL.
CG again as of 7/20/12

Cleanser: BRÖÖ Smoothing I.P.A. Shampoo
RO: Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner
LI: Kinky-Curly Knot Today
Styler: Beautiful Curls Gel for Wavy to Curly Hair

all-natural products, light moisture, humectants, argan oil
silk protein, synthetic ingredients, heavy oils/products, cowashing
Sooooo....hair didn't need to be sealed after all. I love GFTN only, especially after oil rinsing post wash! Too bad GFTN is making it's way off the shelves with a new formula. Definitely stocked up to keep doing CO only styling until summer ends. I will keep using CIAB only on extra humid days. May have to try Curls creme brulee or Curls White Tea to replace GFTN, they seem to be the only CO's with a low enough dose of butters/oils to mirror Garnier...
3B, Fine, Normal P, Normal E, Low-Med D
LowP: Kinky Curly Come Clean (50% EVOO)
NoP: As I Am CC
RO: Suave Coconut, VO5 Shea Cashmere
LI: KCKT or CJBCLI or HETT/HENOYF (w/ 8 drops GSO)

I've been trying this over the past three days. I tried yes to carrots as a Li and style and sealed with baby oil the one day and olive oil the next. Awesome results! My hair seemed a little weighed down because I didn't have ringlets. I tries suave tropical coconut as Li style today with baby oil, so far so good. I think it's doable but I need to find the right Li

The right LI is key for sure. I really wish I could still use Giovanni (the newer formulation foams up in my hair worse than the old version did, it's so annoying) and MOP (has a paraben), but if you don't care about parabens, and your hair can absorb Giovanni, I highly recommend those 2.

I'm going to try using Aussie Moist as my styler for the first time tomorrow.

So last night I used the Sauve Naturals tropical coconut as a LI and styler and then I sealed with baby oil.

As my hair dried, sections had wonderful spiral curls and some sections were a frizzy frizzy mess. IDK if this was a problem with product distribution but I dont think so because I applied it in layers and used a denman brush.

As far as your comment about the oil weighing it down. Probably. Im actually experimenting with oils for the first time as well as the LI/styler. I probably shouldnt be doing two new things at once. HAHA.

Im going to keep trying and experimenting for the next few days and leave out the oil. Im LOVING the no gel feeling though. LOVING IT. I really really really really hope this works out for my hair because I really dont want to stick gel back in my hair.

I've heard of people having success styling with just deva OneC. I'm going to try this sometime, I have the devacare one.
Baby oil contains mineral oil, which can gum up the cuticle of your hair.
Peace,

Can I please say I've been using only conditioner as my Li/ styler for about a week now. LOVE IT. LOVE IT!!! I seriously didn't think I'd break free from gel but I don't want to use gel ever again.

So far successful Li/ stylers have included yes to carrots, sauve tropical coconut, deva one condition, and cj banana hibiscus leave in.

I notice my hair might now be perfect when it dries but with a little touch up of conditioner and it's perfect!

Also my hair seems more moisturized and healthy but idk
If the gel was just shielding that.

I've been doing conditioner only styling for about a year now and LOVE it.

I switched a year ago when I found that the gel i was using was actually making my hair so stiff it was breaking off (yikes!). I started with Tresemme leave-in conditioner but the small bottle annoyed me and after I made the decission to take out sulfates and cones I had to switch anyway. I now use L'Oreal Eversleek condtioner in my hair I just make my hair damp and finger comb it in (about a palm full). I honestly, cant' figure out why I didn't try this years ago. I leaves my hair controlled but soft and bouncy. Needless to say...I threw all my other hair products out.

Either way, I'd say even if you hair isn't like mine go ahead and give it a shot. You never know until you try! =)

I tried this yesterday using Deva One as a styler. I may have over done it, because my hair was kind of weighed down, and it gave me a beachy waves kind of look, which I actually kind of liked. I had to resort to a ponytail by mid-day though. However, the upside of this was it was like a 24-hour deep treatment, because when I took my shower this morning and got my hair wet to wash again, it felt incredible! Did my typical wash, air dry a bit, diffuse routine and it looks really good today, super healthy, bouncy, shiny.
My hair is still LOVING this. I found Samy Curls Conditioner yesterday at the Dollar Tree. I tried it as a LI, and yep, my hair loves it. My hair is fuller now, especially on humid days, but I much prefer that than to the crunch and stickiness gel gave me. Sometimes I add mousse to it for a little extra hold but still no crunch. So glad I tried this so long ago. And yep, I've cleaned out my product "closet" too. No need to hold on to things that don't work.
I'm so beyond excited to ditch the gel. Although I'm going to the beach for a week on Friday and I might bring some for an emergency. My hair always dies crazy things at the beach.

My favorite thing about condition only for everything is how you get in the shower to initially wet your hair and it's gets reactivated. I love how silky my hair is.

I'm still having problems with wiry ends. It's only in the underneath of my hair that's kinky 3b. I've been adding conditioner at night to sleep on them and adding a Li to my Li on the ends. HTH. If not hopefully a haircut will fix it.

Maybe it's the conditioner you used? I've found that some conditioners are too heavy for my hair and likewise some are too light...it's taken a bit of experimentation to see what works, and how much of each product to use.

I recently noticed that my hair felt 'heavier'/limp and after a bit of thinking I realized that the conditioner I was using to wash with (Tresemme Naturals) in combination with the conditioner I was leaving as a leave-in was to much for my hair. I switched to a conditioner that has better cleansing agents (Centrimonium Chloride, and Stearyalkonium Chloride) and is lighter and no more issues!

Also, I don't know if this makes a difference or not. But I put conditioner in my hair everyday. By the time I get up in the morning my curls aren't good for anything but a poneytail lol I have to re-wet and add more product in. Usually the first day (after washing) I add a little bit more conditioner with especial tention to the ends.

And you know, honestly, even if this method doesn't work for you that's cool too. =D Everyone's hair is different!
