Has anyone tried Redken Fresh Curls?

It looks so tempting...

Yes...But the products are not completely CG. When I need a gentle (sulfate) shampoo, I will use the Fresh Curls Shampoo. The conditioner is ok (has amodimethicone). The product I use ALL the time is the Curl Refiner (has amodimethicone). It is marketed as a leave in, but I (and other curlies) use it as a curl cream. In the summer I would put some CIAB over it, now I am using some gel...I low poo, co wash, and use the occasional sulfate poo, so I do not get build up from the amodimethicone. The Fresh Curls Curl Refiner is one of my HG products.
2b/3a, normal/high porosity, fine/medium texture, medium density, low elasticity

Low Poo- Tigi Colour Goddess, Giovanni 50:50, Giovanni TTT (clarify 1X/week)
Condish- CJ Curl Rehab, Giovanni 50:50, Giovanni TTT
Leave In- Slip Detangler, KCKT, Redken Curl Refiner
Style- KCCC, SS CEJ, SS FHG
Treatment- CJ Repair Me! and CJ CR

Dislikes: Too much protein, high glycerin content, and heavy oils
The shampoo has sodium laureth sulfate but feels very gentle. I like it. The rinse out conditioner is okay (not bad, but it isn't remarkable). The leave-in/refiner conditioner that SegB just mentioned is wonderful. I like it. It does have amodimethicone, which my hair loves.
I haven't tried anything else from the FreshCurls line, so I cannot say whether they are good or bad.
The leave-in/refiner is creamy, very creamy. I use it on freshly washed, wet hair...I scrunch to encourage curl, then I let it airdry. Later, I scrunch it again...it isn't crunchy, but it helps to take away the wet look. I don't use any stylers (no gel), so I just use the leave-in as my styler (like a curl cream, I guess)...and that's it. My hair responds well...its shiny, reduces frizz, smells good, light (not producty). If its windy outside, I'll use a little hairspray (but that's rare).

I find this helps me with "second day" hair. In the morning, I spray my hair with a different leave-in and lightly scrunch my hair...and voila! It doesn't look exactly like the first day hair, but still looks good.
That's right, I said it! I wear scrunchies!!

I am a sulfate washing, cone slabbing, curly lovin' s.o.b. The CG police haven't caught me yet.

Which leave-in do you spray on as a refresher? Also, does Fresh Curls Curl Refiner have castor oil or soy protein in it? If not, I might give it a try.

Not sure if this is the most current...Looks like there is soy protein but it's in the middlle of the list...My hair can be sensitive to protein but I really love this stuff. Doesn't look like there is any castor oil in it...

What is amodimethicone? Can you wash it out with water?

Let me clarify what I mean by-- that it gives me second-day hair. I reread my post.

I have only found that the FreshCurls refiner and Garnier Fructis sleek and shine creamy leave-in are the only two that I can get away with second day hair. Both of them are similar to me (different smell...FreshCurls is creamier, but both creamy). They both have amodimethicone in it, which works miracles in my hair.

Other creamy leave-ins (the CG ones) leave my hair too frizzy the next day. I don't know why it is (maybe cones help ???). So, the next day, I just need a spray leave-in to help defrizz (as it get a little frizzy but is able to magically defrizz with some help...the other leave-ins didn't seem to do that).

My "help" is spray leave-in...and guess what? They have amodimethicone in them. The two I use are: Tresemme HeatTamer and Nexxus (I think it's Luxe?? It's a small, off-white aerosol can). Technically, the Tresemme one is a heat protectant...but it has the exact same ingredients as the Nexxus leave-in but fraction of the price. It is in a black pump spray. I like both...the Nexxus one smells really good but its pricy. I think I like the pump spray effects better.

I have tried homemade leave-ins (using water and a rinse out conditioner) and it just doesn't work. I am not good at making homemade anything.

Actually, the Tresemme one doesn't have the exact ingredients anymore. They reformulated. They added a water soluble cone, in addition to amodimethicone. I haven't found any problems with the reformulation. It seems to work the same.

So, if you want to go cheap...Use the Garnier Fructis sleek and shine leave-in (green bottle) and Tresemme Heat Tamer.
I think I like Redkens refiner a little better and am willing to pay extra...but the GF sleek and shine one is really good in my book, too.

Hope that helps.

I tried both the leave in refiner (which was sold to me as more of a curl cream- very true) and also the anti frizz scrunching gel (which I was told was good for day two refreshing hair). I actually returned both products. I found both products to be very waxy feeling and left me feeling like I had too much build up and I craved washing my hair all day, LOL! My stylist told me if I found the refiner cream too heavy that I would like Redken's ringlet 07 better for day 2 refreshing, and she's right. While I've pretty much switched to all aveda products since they are paraben free, I still often find myself using a pump of the redken ringlet on dampened day 2 hair (does have some cones but also some nice lighter oils like sunflower seed oil).

It's so interesting how everyone's hair reacts differently...I tried the Redken Ringlet and could NOT get it to work for me. Always a frizzy, limp mess. I find the Refiner very creamy and it has some hold to it...I don't have to use a lot to get it to work.

Fairewood- I meant to say that I am usually sensitive to wheat protein but do fine with the Refiner.

In my Avatar I have the Refiner with CIAB layered on top. That was my go to combo in the fall.

I agree that ringlet doesn't do much by itself. That's why I like it on day 2 because it's so light, but just a little more product than water to reactivate curls but doesn't make my hair feel heavy if I use day 1 type products. I don't always use it, but like it better than the heavy refiner.

My new HG which is kind of similar in function to the refiner is aveda's be curly style prep. This is a leave in that's a cream, enhances curl, gives definition and more uniform curl, anti frizz and even has a little hold. It has replaced my curl cream (aveda's be curly enhancer) and it is also CG and has no nasty parabens and other junk that redken hasn't replaced yet.

Hey Redken Fresh Curls users! I just got a cut and my stylist used this line on me and I like it! A couple of questions:

I see some of you use the shampoo and the curl refiner. What do you use as a conditioner? Do you use the Fresh Curls (a-cone) or one of your regular CG conditioners like TIGI MM?

Also, he used the curl refiner, the mousse, and then the 14 curl defining cream. I'm not sure if I'd use another cream after the refiner. Thoughts?

And finally, 2nd day hair with a spray leave in? I've never tried it but I need to!

I used to use it before going sorta CG, as well as Ringlet. My hair didn't curl nearly as well back then, whether because of the 'cones, etc. I don't know.

They still use the line on me when I get my hair cut, and it still barely curls when they do . I can go home, wash it out and use my own products, and it curls right back up.

I love its nice clean fragrance, though.

I use a different conditioner (MM but they are discontinuing that) and the Refiner, usually with a gel (CJ CQ) on top...Or sometimes I will put CJ CF underneath and use the Refiner as my main styler. It has enough hold for me...The Refiner is one of my HG products!
