I like locs in general, but these were just bad. One of them was as thick as my wrist and looked more matted than locked. The lady was quite nice, and I enjoyed that episode. But, those locs were crazy bad.

That's too bad. I wonder if her friend tried to talk to her about her hair hygiene privately? If my hair looked nasty, i would want a caring friend to tell me privately when maybe I could address the issue myself, before putting me on television. But, I'm glad it came out looking nice even if it was super boy-short. but in a year or so she should have some nice length.

First of all the style is locs. "Dreads" is a term you people gave them based on how dreadful they looked to you...ie your reactions to the style. They aren't awful, dirty, or disgusting...it's how African hair grows when its not chemicalized. Wow!

To answer your question, yes locs are curls. People of African heritage are the curliest. Locs are formed by not combing the hair and allowing the curls to collect. What you call a "dread" is simply millions of curls that haven't been combed.

I don't appreciate the "you people" crap. If you had bothered to read the whole thread before reacting you'd know they're talking about a particular person not the hair style in general. And us "you people" wear dreads too so get a grip.

Yes Massa! and I don't need to get a grip...you need to be a little more careful how you word things, b/c they can read as offensive to someone else. and FYI, the particular locs you're talking about ARE traditional locs. They are called freeforms...and that's exactly what I was talking about. So correct yourself.

The negative reactions to non-Europeanized African hair was uncalled for to me. So I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Ewwww!

Anyone found a pic yet? Is she somewhere on this page?

I wish they showed the US version of WNTW on UK tv. I know they show the UK version over there. I'd love to see the difference in styling because I'm sure there is one.

Sahara, the woman on the show was not of African heritage.
Our reactions are only to some really dirty, unkempt, and overall gross hair.
