Cheap protein-containing alternative to Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut?

This product is working well for me, & I love the price.

But I hate coconut! I hate to eat it, I hate to smell it, I don't even like to think about it. Blech.

I want something with protein, though, & I believe this is the only conditioner in this line that has it.

Any recommendations for a cheap-o drugstore brand I can substitute?

Thanks.

Gel Looking for a replacement for the discontinued LAL blue gel. Also thinking I need a low- or no-humectant gel for high-dew days, but haven't figured that one out.
I haven't tried it (yet!) but I know that the Nourish conditioner from Trader Joe's has protein in it. And if it's like the other hair products from TJ, it will smell great and be super cheap (like ~$2-3)

I think the Giovanni TTTT has protein. The Renpure Organics in the red bottle has protein and is around $7. It has been BOGOF at Walgreens for a long time and if you can still find the hang-tags on the bottles there is a mail in rebate making them free!

I have not used this one, but another member posted about it and I added it to my shopping notes file:
Salon Care Apple Pear Conditioner

VO5 Moisture Milks Strawberry has a touch of protein. I cant handle many proteins, and even this light cheapie gave me issues. If you need a little protein in a light weight condish, this might be perfect for you.

If you don't like the Apple/Pear scent (I love it, but I love all things apple. I think it smells like sour apple now-n-later candies) there is also a honey almond scent. I would like to try that one also, but my gallon of Apple/Pear is still pretty full, LOL.

I have 6 different ones in the shower and several more in reserve. LOL

Why not just co-wash with what ever you like because of price and the large amount you have to use then find a good rich protein cond. to condish with that way price isnt the deciding factor! Thats what ive resorted to any way.
Right now I use what ever sent of cheep condish then condish with Sallys GVP K-pak conditioner. It seems to make my fine hair nice and soft but it does have mineral oil in it. Ive seen lots of people on here not do well with it( the MN). So not sure if this will work for every wash just started using it cause I wasnt a fan of the coconut condish (just didnt like it as well as some of the V05 line).

Does anyone know what the deal is with mineral oil and can it b co-washed out ?

Wow, thanks, lots of helpful ideas.

I do have to admit, the scent of the Suave Naturals isn't very strong other than in the shower when I put it in--it does dissipate. And especially if I use it as a cowash only, it's only a couple of minutes I have to endure it. I actually prefer minimal scenting of any kind, but it's just that I have a particular hatred of coconut....any other scent I didn't care for wouldn't bother me to the same degree. (And to be honest, it's the Coffee Coco curl creme that lingers & is the bigger offender--really, I should have known better than to even try that one! I won't buy it again.)

It coats the hair, and cannot be washed out without strong sulfate detergents, which is why products containing it are not used by people following the Curly Girl method.

Thanks Morgan, I'm glad I've only used the gvp k-pak once. Looks like I'm on the hunt again for a good protein condish. I hope the MO will wash out over time cause I'm not going to sacrifice where I've came to go bac to where I've been! Lol
