hair limp, gummy, and too soft even after protein

hi all! i have been modified CG for around 3 years now and just recently have started using a sulfate shampoo occasionally, as i've learned more about my hair and determined that it needs less moisture and gets weighed down more easily than most curlies. lately i've been using aveda rosemary mint conditioner and shampoo (a couple times a week), and supplementing with a vo5 clarifying shampoo when i felt i needed it. the only styling product i've been using for the past few months is joiwhip, and it's been working well for me. however, for the last week or so, my hair has been very limp, frizzy and dull. it also feels gummy and much too soft. it seems weird that i would be over-conditioned since i don't think my products are extremely moisturizing. i had this problem once before (in fact, around the exact same time last year), did a protein treatment, and the curls sprang back to life. however, today i did a protein treatment (nexxus emergencee) and saw no change at all--same hair issues. any ideas what could be going on or how to remedy it? thanks as always for being such a helpful community!
I was so excited to try a PT since all the other wavies had such great success. Nexxus Emergencee only gave me limp and soft hair. I thought that I was odd man out. PT's and DT's leave me feeling the same way.
I'm 47. Straight hair until 6/2010. THANKS, thyroid!

emergencee has worked okay for me in the past, though, which is weird. this seems like a protein issue to me, but maybe i need a stronger treatment?
idk, limp, frizzy, dull, gummy, and soft sound like oc'd to me. I'd wash it and see if that works

i have washed it, even with sulfate shampoos, with no success.
I've been mod CG for about 1.5 years. The same thing happened to me about year ago and I figured out that it was something in my conditioner that didn't agree with me. Something just didn't wash out - it left my hair feeling gummy. So I washed it with a low-poo and baking soda, rinsed, then did a acv rinse, then a light conditioner for a rinse out.

I'm thinking you might have a similar problem because after you clarify and do a PT, you're still using the products that are causing the problem which results in gummy, limp curls. You might just set aside the shampoo and conditioners you're using and try some new ones. Hopefully your hair will recover quickly! Please keep us updated!

thanks for the replies! i did an acv rinse this morning and used a CJ condish instead of the aveda products, and it helped a lot. my hair is still frizzier than i would like and shedding a lot, but the limp, mushy, too-soft feeling is gone and my curls aren't nearly as elongated. i'll keep rotating products and hopefully that will continue to help. thanks again!
So glad to hear things are better! Good idea rotating products...it kind of keeps your hair guessing - makes it stand up at attention! Hope it continues to improve!
