I wanted to hear from others who have had success with either the Curly Girl method, the Tightly Curly method ( from the book Curly Like Me by Teri LaFlesh) or both. I have sort of been alternating between the Curly Girl and the Tightly Curly method for the past three weeks. My 3C curls do already seem more defined and in better condition, especially with the curly girl method. The Tightly Curly method sometimes makes my hair a bit " coated" as one leaves in the conditioner, but that has become less of a problem. I still need to get my hair cut soon as I still have many split ends and I have not cut my hair since last December. Once the ends are cut off, should I notice even more of a difference in my hair condition??? Should I still try both methods, or stick to just one?

Well there's no rule that says you can't combine techniques. I guess you could say I do a "CG Tightly Curly" method. I don't use 'cones, but I do leave in conditioner as my main styling product.

I do both as well but I stay away from silicones. It's whatever your hair responds to with both. I have done with tightly curly method with the silicones and it did cut down on the shrinkage but it made my hair feel coated as well and suffocated I felt the need to wash everyday and I know that is not healthy for my hair.

I do it now with a silcone free conditioner and it doesn't feel that way anymore.

I don't use silicones either. I feel like curls in bloom- they tend to coat my hair too much.
