satin cap? satin pillowcase?

I want to buy something to help my hair frizz less overnight. The satin pillowcase in curlmart costs $30.00. Is it worth it? Has anyone bought satin pillowcases through Amazon or elsewhere that you recommend? Do you prefer a satin sleep cap? Why?

I'm off to work (hurray - got a temp job!) but will check answers this evening. Please reply if you have suggestions. Thanks everyone.

The problem with a satin sleep cap is that the big bad wolf may mistake you for breakfast.
Congrats CurlyPearl!

The SO calls me "sexy lunch lady" when I wear mine. I got it from Sally's and all they had was beige with white lace.

- 2C - Coarse Canopy & med/fine underlayers
- MOP C Hydrating 'poo
- LOreal Natures Therapy Moisturizing condish, ION Effective Care, Garnier S&S (old formula)
- treatments: CJ Curl Rehab, CJ Repair Me!
- plopping, diffusing, and clipping the roots
Personally I use both. I am a pretty wild sleeper & I'm trying to grow my hair out so I'm doing protective styles 99% of the time so I tie my hair up w/a silk scarf & also purchased a satin pillowcase.

Both can be purchased VERY CHEAPLY from walmart. Depending on how much hair you have you may want to go to your local beauty supply store instead for the scarf. I actually gave my mom my scarf from walmart bc it did not provide the coverage I needed. However the pillowcase has been great & I don't remember whether it's $7.99 or $8 something however it is definitely less than $10. The brand name is EVOLVE for both products. You can find them in the blk/ethnic hair care section.

Even with my shorter length, it's long enough so that a pillowcase alone isn't helpful. My hair would still tangle up, though it might work for me with a pineapple.

I prefer the Satinsakk because the satin part is actually on the inside where it should be, protecting the hair.

Med/Coarse, porous curly.
I got a satin pillowcase at Bed Bath and Beyond for $4 and its OK.

I also have two different sleep caps from Sallys. Both were found in the "ethnic" section of the store.

I have this one:

and this one:

I like the stay-on satin one better. It says "smooth on the outside, soft on the inside" meaning that the inside is supposed to be soft to protect your curls. I just turned it insideout so the satin part was touching my hair.

Both are cheaply made, which was disappointing, but both work fine.

I'm with you, curlypearl. I'm super interested in a satin pillowcase. I pineapple, and that really helps protect my length (plus my DBF thinks its cute ) but the tiny, tight curls at my nape (I call them my baby corkies) get so tangled...

Hi Curlycandy, I can't pineapple because my hair is too short but I'm off today to see if I can scrounge up some sort of satin pillowcase or cap at my local Ricky's. Good luck!

There is no Walmart in Manhattan!

Wow, there's no walmart in manhattan? I don't know if it makes me sound naive, but that's weird Lol

I understand, I've only been able to pineapple for a few months now, and I've only been able to plop for about a month because my hair was too short.

I had my mom sew me up a couple sateen pillow cases. My experience was not so good. They scoot off the bed too easily. I find them a bit uncomfortable and then my cat sleeps on them when I'm not home so it bugs my allergies.

I also don't sleep well with things on my head. They either fall off or pinch/irritate my ears.

I'm trying to find other ways to keep the hair hice but so far I just rely on a morning spritz.

I'm a tosser and turner, so I use snap clips to keep it on (two near my temples and two at the nape). It works okay, and it has made a big difference in my hair. Just a suggestion.

I got my satin pillowcase from K-Mart for about $6 or $7 about 1 year ago and it's a life-saver! I sleep with a satin bonnet but if I forget or it slips off I'm not worried because the satin pillowcase protects my style.
I am still using my satin pillowcase I purchased 6 years ago from my salon. My stylist has always recommended me to sleep on one. I just purchased another one on their web site in a different color (my stylist did not carry the colors - just the white) I got a black one & love it for $21!! Thinking about getting one more. Anyway check out www.satinwonders.com
Good Luck!
Ricky's also has these tubes (l think called 'hoods'). The brand is Sue Maesta. A lot of people like these bc they keep your hair from moving around. They are made from opaque tights and fit snugly around your forehead.

I personally like satin caps _if_ they don't come off. I push my hair forward so the weight of my head isn't crushing my hair while I sleep.

Thanks to everyone! I bought a satin pillowcase and I'm on the hunt for a satin sleep cap, but the one I saw had elastic which I thought would bother me. On the other hand, how would it stay on?

I'm going to try using hairnets (hello cafeteria ladies) - the fine kind and the satin pillowcase.
