Need Advice: Doing Treatments Before A Big Day
So next weekend is my college graduation and I'm stressing a bit about my hair looking good. I just got my hair analysis results back and I have been recommended protein for my hair. Thinking about it, my hair seems to need it because its getting frizzier than normal and my curl pattern is changing day to day.
So my question, should I attempt a protein treatment now before my big day? Or should I hold off? I am worried that my hair will react unpredictably and I'll have messed up hair for next Saturday.
Any advice will be appreciated. I am down to any protein treatment that I can go out and buy because I don't think I have enough time to order anything online. I am also down to get any sort of product that maybe has protein in it instead of doing a PT. My siggie has all the current products I am using, as well as my true hair facts.
Thanks!!!

If you're afraid of your acting up a full week ahead of your big day, I would suggest waiting. However, that is just my opinion and if you really feel like you need it, then maybe do it in the next day or so. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of experience with protein so I don't have any suggestions for you . Good luck and congrats on your graduation though!!!!!!!!!

First off, congratulations!
There are a couple of items from Sally's that you can try. I like Ion Effective Care Treatment. It's a combo protein/moisture treatment. I use it most days as a rinse-out conditioner. It might be a good one to try at first to see how your hair responds. Ion also makes Effective Care Reconstructor. It's a more heavy duty protein treatment. It does contain magnesium sulfate (epsom salts) also, which enhances curls but can also be drying. I like to use a heavier conditioner to add back some moisture after I use it.
Another product from Sally's is the GVP version of Joico K-pak Protein Treatment. It does contain mineral oil which some people have trouble with. Nexxus Emergency can be found at places like Target and Walgreens.
Another option is IAGirl's homemade protein treatment. There's a thread in the 2's forum that contains the recipe.
If you do a treatment over the weekend, you should be fine by next Saturday. If your hair doesn't seem to like the protein, a good dose of conditioning should counteract any dryness or frizz.

Awesome thanks! Most of the products you suggested are ones I've been reading about. I'll probably try something over the weekend, just to see how my hair reacts. Good to know that I can fix whatever happens by next weekend.

I was worried the 1st time too! my analysis said fine hair you need protein! So I bought the small Ion protein pac and the generic J pak at the same time IMO the Ion is better. The J pak has mineral oil which is pretty hard to get out if you CG, not to mention it made my hair feel like yuck heavy.
I couldn't believe how much better my hair felt after using the Ion pac.Since then I do a protein once a week. If for some reason I get dry after a PT I use the generic condish balm from sallys (that stuff is Great). A really good PT from curl mart is Curl Junkies Repair me its awesome!!!
O and congrats on you gradation!

Thanks for the recommendation! I think I will try out the Ion pac. I have a coupon for Sallys for free nail polish anyway, I might as well get something I need and get the freebie. Maybe I'll try out the GVP conditioning balm as well. I just bought a bottle of Tresemme Naturals which I used to use about a month ago with good results, not though I haven't had the best luck with it . Time get something better. Good to know the balm works for you, because we have the same texture.

So to update, I did a PT and DT today. PT with the Ion Effective Care Reconstructor and DT with GVP Conditioning Balm.
My hair is super soft! Plus my curl pattern seems revived. Hope this means my curls look awesome next Saturday!
