do you get better hair if you just leave it alone?

This morning I used all Jessicurl products, and my hair looked really good. But then I HAD to start fussing with it-seeing if it looked better with the sides pulled up, reararnging some pieces, etc. The more I touched my hair, the less curl I had. I gues my curl pattern isn't very strong....

Is anyone able to just do their hair, and like Lorraine says is Curly Girl "hang out at sign and do not disturb it." For some reason I keep fussing with my hair once I"m "done" and it ends up looking worse. I just can't leave it alone.

If I fuss with it, I end up having to put it up in a clip. I know what you mean about the curl not being very strong. If I tuck my front layers behind my ears, those strands will be completely straight within an hour.

so true... on days when i'm doing housework or whatever and don't care what i look like, i'll normally just wash and scrunch dry a little and completely ignore my hair while i do whatever i'm doing.. i always get the best hair when i do this!
It is the case for me too that if i don't touch it, my hair will look great! One problem... I can't stop touching it!
In DESPERATE need of a haircut.
If I really pick at it, I start losing curl but what I can do is (and i do it often during the day) shake out with my hands. I very carefully slip my hand underneath and shake. Any areas that have gone a bit flat usually curl back up and fluff up (no frizz). But, I don't like clumpy curls on me. My hair is too fine and thin for clumped curls. I get bouncy ringlets that are more fluffy.

Yes, this is true for me, too. Actually, if I touch my hair, the curls fall apart into single-stranded curls. Thus, the thickness of my hair grows exponentially. I tried diffusing yesterday, which meant more touching. I looked hideous. The ONLY good hair days for me are days when I can sit absolutely still, not leaving the house or so much as bending over, until my hair dries. For that to happen, I have to put in a movie and watch it til the end. By then my hair is almost dry... Having long curly hair is too time consuming. On the other hand, drying my hair straight is time consuming AND hard work!

Well if I just leave it alone then I get complete ringlets everywere on my head BUT there isn't a lot of volume. I'd rather have looser curls that ae styled with volume than ringlets that just hang there.
I absolutely get better hair if I leave it alone! I try to clip up my roots and aim the car vent on my hair to dry it on my way to work. If it looks frizzy or anything while drying, I have to force myself to leave it alone. When it is dry it usually looks fine.

Some of you "little girls" need to sit on your hands! :P

Once I'm done with all "wet styling" steps I may just lightly touch it while diffusing to keep some strands from blowing away, after that it's "hands off" until it's completely dry. Then I fluff bending down from the waist and may shake my head a little bit. If there's still any crunch and it's not full enough I get better results by twisting all my hair together while upside down than from scrunching, but first I rub a couple of drops of jojoba oil in my hands so I won't cause any frizz. After that I don't touch it at all until the next day when I "refresh/refluff".

I like that idea. I'm going to try that.

For me, this was the key to finally liking my hair. The more I mess with it, the frizzier it gets. If I just leave it alone, I get really nice hair most days. This seems so obvious, that I wonder why it took me until I was nearly 40 to get it!
My hair is really thin and fine, so actually, it gets better the more I mess with it. It can be really limp in the am, but by afternoon it looks great. Go figure!
Better everyone think your a fool, than to open your mouth and prove them right.
