I went to the store the other day and looked at labels until my eyes crossed. I finally ended up with a gel that I thought was protein/cone free, but when I got home and looked again, there is dimethicone in the ingredients. UGHH!

Can anyone recommend a brand that I can get local?

I'm not sure if they are protein-free but La Bella Sports Gel, LA Looks Sports Gel and Herbal Essence Set Me Up are all CG, drugstore available, and are pretty popular around here. I use the La Bella over Styling Mudd and I like it

I love Herbal Essences Totally Twisted It has the perfect amount of everything for me, and it's CG-friendly. Plus it's so cheap, totally worth a try!

And if all else fails, you could look into making your own Flaxseed gel. There's plenty of recipes around here.

Herbal Essences Set Me Up is a protein- and 'cone-free, hard holding gel. So is Aussie Instant Freeze (and most other Aussie gels). The Aussie Instant Freeze is my personal favorite -- it has NICE hold. I haven't gotten to try the SMU yet, though. HTH!
