What's wrong with my hair...

Hey, me again :/

So I got a Deva cut a couple months ago (that's where they cut the middle layers shorter than the outer and lower layers, correct?) and ever since I've been using Deva Angell gel and Set it Free as a finishing spray.

It worked perfectly for those couple months, but in the last 2 weeks my hair has just been crap. No matter how much or little Set it Free or Angel gel I put in my hair, it comes out looking limp, dry, lifeless, stringy, and un-shiny. It's even lost some of its curl pattern. I switched my co-wash to v05 instead of Suave and I'm thinking that may be messing up my hair but I'm not sure.

I want my old hair back, help what do I do

2c/3a, low porosity, very fine and barely holds a style!
Low-poo: Kinky Curly Moisturizing Shampoo
Co-wash: Suave Naturals
Leave-in: Nature's Gate
Gel: KCCC
I've never used the Deva line, so I can't say for sure, but I see two things that *could* cause problems.
The AnGel contains castor oil, which can be heavy and hard to wash out. It's PEG modified, so it may make it more water soluble, I am not sure. I make it a point to steer clear of castor oil in general.
The SIF contains beeswax, same problem as castor oil, can be heavy, and hard to wash out.

ETA: A Deva cut, in my understanding, isn't about fitting hair into a curly box of a certain style. It's a method of studying and cutting curly hair when dry to enhance the natural curl. The premise being that you can't see the curl pattern when wet, and that we don't wear our hair wet, so the curls should be cut in their worn state (dry). It's more about understanding the natural curl pattern of your hair, assessing it, and coming up with a style that works for you.

Many of us rotate our products for this very reason, they stop working if used too much. My hair has always satiated on products, even back in my shampoo/conditioner only days.

Many of us start out with the Deva products and think we like them. Then we come on nc.com, see other products and really learn what great products can ultimately do for our hair. My hair HATES castor oil, but I can use the PEG modified ones, so I don't think it's that.

I cowashed for six months and thought my hair was doing well. When shampoo bars became the rage around two years ago, I started to use them--all I can say is WOW. They tightened my curl and added volume. They are very gentle and seem to remove any residual ingredients of the rich products that I use.

Another thing that's really important for my fine hair is frequent PTs. I do at least one a week (use moisturizing ones from CJ and SS, so don't need to DT.)

My hair is fine/low porosity, too. I'd recommend any of the products in my signature.

thanks for responding guys!

Wow, I didn't even realize how gross castor oil was. Maybe that's what's making my hair icky.

I have noticed that once I find a product I believe is my HG, it works well for me for about 3-6 weeks. then all of a sudden it stops working and my hair gets poopy. It happened with my garnier fructic gel, my Nature's Gate Hemp Condish, and my Curls goddess curls gel. Makes me sad :/

Is that the way my hair is always gonna be?? Rejecting products every month or so and then I'm going to have to find new ones that work?
