Default Mop Top Gel--need suggestions for use

I know Mop Top Gel is a popular gel, and I remember seeing tons of posts about it before the Great Board Cleanup.

Who's tried it? Did you like it?

What results did you get?

How did you use it? (Little/lot, over leave-in or w/o, etc)

TIA!

I just received the samples the other day; it is a nice light hold gel. However, I think I need more of a hold for my hair. I got a bit of frizz the first day, more than normal. Today, I used a lot more & left the conditioner in & mixed the gel with the pomade. Still not 100% pleased. I do not scrunch in product, I pretty much rake it in. It probably works better for those with less hair than me. Also, the owner emailed me in reply to a question I had - she said she prefers the fuzzy duck gel (the kids version) because it has more hold. So I might try that next before giving up. Excellent ingredients, great product, just not for me

The pomade is very nice though - I might still use that with whatever gel I end up using.

I usually use this over a leave in, usually CEHT.

I use alot of it, like 4 quarter to half dollar sized dollops. I smooth some over my hair with my head flipped upside down and then I scrunch the last couple dollops in.

I do get pretty good results with it but I have a hard time getting 2nd day hair with it. Similar to Angell in that regard for me. I hate it when I can't get good 2nd day hair!

So is it super-crunchy for you two? Does it give skinny or chunky curls?

No crunch for me. Normally, I get crunch from ANY gel. That is why I hate to give up on it, the zero crunch is great. I might buy the kids version of the gel because it supposively has more hold. I probably got somewhere in-between skinny & chunky. I have definitely gotten skinnier curls, but I prefer a bigger, looser curl & I didn't get that with this gel - again, my hair might be an exception (see my fotki for photos of my hair - the photos were taken using different products, not the mop top). Today, it looks better than it did yesterday (less frizz), but I left the conditioner in & used a lot more of the gel. Just does not feel like it's enough hold in some parts of my hair.

I get a lot of crunch with this gel for some reason. I rinse out all of the conditioner I'm using (Regis Olive Oil...it's very green when left in). I've tried it with leave-in under it and without and gotten crunch in the roots that was quite difficult to scrunch out both times. Wonder why...

I am only surprised because, as I said, I ALWAYS get crunch & did not with this gel. Maybe the conditioner contributed? I used the Mop Top Conditioner with it - one time I rinsed out, one time I left in. Both times, no crunch. I believe the second time I had some slight crunch, but it came out easily. I really want to give these products another try, the ingredients are soooo CG friendly. Also, I e-mailed the owner & she informed me that they are planning a firmer hold gel with no crunch for the near future. Hmmmm.
