products that build up, whether they should or not
Ok everyone, what products build up on you, whether or not they should. Proteins, water soluable cones, regular cones, wax, oil, whatever it is this is your chance to sound off about it.
I'll start with the bizare, poos, sulfate free, sulfate, anything that bubbles won't rinse out of my hair and sticks to it drying it out and building up (very soft well water)
ETA: wax's in products build up on me too. Which sucks because they enhance curl on me so well
What about ya'll?

It seems like whatever I do, how little of products I use, etc. I still seem to get buildup on strict CG. I have very soft water too and never took that into acct. Everything builds up on me in time.

I was wondering if everything would build up with soft water or just shampoo.
ETA: I think it seems to.

I seem to get buildup (scalp) from conditioner, period...I've tried to go strict CG time and time again, and this predictably happens. Scalp buildup from moisturizing shampoos, and from hair 'butters'. It takes a lot for me to get all-over buildup though...I usually can't make it that far because the scalp goes into crisis mode...

For me it's polyquats of any kind, they are the kiss of death to my hair! Took me ages and ages to figure this out, but now that I have, I avoid them like the plague. They not only build up quickly on me, but if I'm using them and happen to be trying a strict CG routine, within a matter of a couple of days every hair on my head will feel like it's encased in plastic! No conditioner on earth can penetrate the coating. And my hair will feel dryer with every passing day. And I get this really awful "angry-looking" frizz. At that point it takes me forever to get the stuff back out of my hair, so I've sworn off them for good.
There is an upside to this though. Since so many products out there seem to contain polyquats, I've hardly spent any money on hair stuff lately.

I think I'm so -cone sensitive that even amodimethicone causes my hair to go limp and frizz... and it's water-soluble And I REALLY wanted the entire Devacurl line to work for me! Oh well - I still use the NoPoo to cleanse when necessary, usually once every two weeks or so.

I more or less get buildup from everything. Conditioners, stylers, hard water, protein, polyquarts, silicones.
Even if I use very little of it.

Good to know about the polyquats, I had been wondering if they did that myself.
LCL the A cone isn't actually water soluable but her cleansers are supposed to remove it and generally it's an easy one to remove......... that's the word anyway, YMMV of course.
Anyone have build up from what's supposed to be water soluble cones? I always wonder this

I'm glad you started this thread because I've suspected for a good while that the determining factor for some people's build-up had to be the water. Now a lot of people can take this into consideration before deciding that a product that didn't work for some people is "bad" and maybe also be cautious about spending a lot of money on new products until they hear that someone with water similar to theirs did well on them.
I once lived for a while in a house where the water was softened and I hated how long I had to run the water to be able to rinse anything off my hair and body, also it tasted salty so I had to buy bottled water. I wonder if maybe people could use less of those salt pellets used in the softener. Sometimes I think it's easier to put up with the hard water than that, probably a shower filter would just be enough.
