Damaged canopy seeks ringlets!

I've been CG for about three weeks, and I need some help creating curl in damaged areas. The underlayers of my hair and the short, new pieces upfront form gorgeous corkscrew ringlets that I adore. But the canopy--especially the front and sides, where I did the most damage with my heat-styling routine, form much looser wave-curls. I'm doing my best to treat these parts with TLC and get them hydrated and healthy. Is there anything I can do to encourage curl in these damaged areas? I'd love so much to have a head full of glossy ringlets!

Have you tried cupping your hair with a diffuser. That's what I did while I was growing out the last of the heat damaged hair and it helped blend it in a lot.

Try scrunching a lot when applying styling products. Like a whole lot! I had the exact same problem when I went CG, my canopy really didn't want to curl because of all the years of heat and chemical damage. Over time, the canopy will get healthier and curl more and more.

You can try finger curling when it is wet as well. After I scrunch I twist random pieces throughout my hair. It's not for everyone but it's how I style my hair every time I wash and it's the only way I can achieve ringlets or perfectly defined curls that lay properly. It's worth a shot!

I have this issue too.

I often style my hair so as to accentuate the under layers for this reason. For example, sometimes I take some from the top & sides & pull it to the back & tuck it under (sort of like a bun), then secure with bobby pins. Or I find that just pushing my hair up a bit on the top & sides with bobby pins often affects the way it falls enough to make the curlier parts more prominent.

But I just wish the outer layer curled as nicely as the hair underneath!

Gel Looking for a replacement for the discontinued LAL blue gel. Also thinking I need a low- or no-humectant gel for high-dew days, but haven't figured that one out.
My canopy was almost straight when I started. It has almost caught up now.

Things I did:
*Pin curls when wet and left until dry
*separately scrunching this area
*sometimes after totally dry, just spritzing canopy with curl refresher and pixie-diffusing
*if I needed to finger comb for fullness (because my hair is thin). I would lift canopy and only finger comb the under layers.
*getting layers cut it - took off weight and helped tremendously

I would probably use the flexi rods for those parts.

Co-wash: Suave, Vo5, HE, Aussie Moist
Deep Conditioner: GVP Conditioning Balm
Leave-in: Nourish Conditioner (Trader Joe's)
Stylers: LA Looks Sports, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil.
Methods: Wet plop or pineapple at night, diffuse in the morning. Scrunch w/joboba, coconut or almond oil.
