Please help a new curlygirl :)

hey fellow curlies!

I just did my first co-wash yesterday after reading the curly girl book and it didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it to :p

My first problem is probably the residue that was left on my hair. I think it's from the hair gel but it's like this white powdery stuff that won't go away, anyone know what it can be?

I also find that the top part of my hair (what massey calls canopy curls) do curl but still lie flat against my head...could it be that I used too much conditioner?

I also feel like my hair was left crunchy and sort of disgusting after all that hair gel. Before I started with this routine I would only use really little hair gel but now I did exactly like the book said..and used a handful. Later when I clipped my roots and let it dry...my hair dried as the clips were and when I took them out the sections wouldn't go away.

Any ideas? :) I appreciate any help I can get!

May I ask what gel you used? It does sound like probably you just used too much gel and it flaked up.

I can use a lot of gel and my hair looks good, but this means using a medium hold water soluble kinda watery gel. But lots of ladies use a lot less and it works just fine; you should do what works for you!

Also remember if you conditioner-wash, you have to really scrub your head with your fingers well, and really rinse well while still agitating the hair, keep rubbing your head while it's rinsing.

Good luck!

Hi A.K. Congrats on going cg.

When you did your first co-wash did you use a cone free shampoo first? (This is to get all of the build up off of the hair)

What products did you use? Conditioners? Gel?

Maybe to much gel?:dontknow:

It would be great if you could tell us your properties?
(texture, curl type, exc.)

HTH!
