Can my hair hate olive oil?

Is this even possible?

I used a thick, deep treatment conditioner two nights ago and ended up with dry, frizzy hair - much, much worse than before using this product. Today I washed my hair with conditioner and things were no better, plus my curls were limp. Then I noticed the conditioner, which I had never used before, also has olive oil in it.

Both of these products are up to CG ingredient standards.

I've always thought OO to be oily or too heavy if anything, which could account for the limp curls, but I am stumped on the dryness. Could it really be that my hair and olive oil just do not get along?

My hair hates olive oil. But it also seems to hate most kinds of oil. I can't use straight oil or anything with it high up in the ingredients. I get nasty frizz.

My hair hates olive oil too! It weighs it down really bad and leaves it greasy and un-shiny. Also it aggravates frizz!

2c/3a, low porosity, very fine and barely holds a style!

It could be you just don't like that conditioner and not the olive oil. Usually olive oil is only small portion of the over all condish

If I read the original post correctly, you didn't put straight EVOO on your hair, but a deep conditioner that contained it. If you haven't used the product before, are there other ingredients in it that you either haven't used before or haven't responded well to? Since you haven't listed your hair properties or the product you used, it's hard to offer any insight.

I've never tried OO, but my hair hated cocoanut oil so OO would probably be worse.

Here's a suggestion that may help being overconditioned. Use (eek!) a mild sulfate shampoo. Follow with a good protein treatment like Curl Junkie Repair me and if necessary a light conditioner. The CJ Repair me is a protein treatment that doesn't make your hair dry like protein treatments can do.

As an alternative, buy Nexxus Emergencee (any drugstore has it - protein treatment) which requires that you shampoo it out afterward and then use a rich conditioner that doesn't have OO.

My hair gets frizzy and limp if it's overconditioned so that's how I fix it. I'd love an update to know how you fixed your problem. Good luck Kayjayess!

I was thinking you were overconditioned, too, when I read your thread. Sometimes when you apply moisture to hair that wants more protein, it just gets drier-feeling and frizzier. But, it's hard to tell, so if you would list your hair properties (like what texture it is, what porosity, and what elasticity), that would help us out a bunch!
Type 2c/3a with lots of hair and a super sensitive scalp! Med/slightly coarse texture, low porosity and elasticity.

My hair is on the finer side of fine-medium and my guess is high-porosity. (I'm still figuring these things out.) I do need heavier products or my hair gets fluffy.

The product was Lustrasilk Olive Oil Cholesterol. I don't see anything in the ingredients, but those of you who have been around longer may notice something:
Water, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, olive oil, cholesterol, soybean oil, safflower oil, wheat germ oil, aloe vera extract, fragrance, vitamin e, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, phosphoric acid, DMDM hydantoin, disodium EDTA, yellow #5, blue #1

I used a Giovanni Smooth as Silk Extreme Protein Hair Infusion last night and it seems like things are looking up. My hair was very curly with good clumps. I went to bed with damp hair and plopped for the first time using a t-shirt.

This morning I have clumps with a bit of frizz. I think some of it is from sleeping. I haven't done my hair for the day. It does still feel dry, but it is definitely better.

IAgirl has a good recipe for a heavy hit of protein. You can find the thread here: PT recipe - as promised. If you read through the thread, there are lots of variations. Also, she recently started a thread on Colorful Neutral Protein Filler from Sally's here: Colorful Neutral Protein Filler. You can add a little to your conditioner, make a protein spray with it - all sorts of stuff. I've been instructed by IAgirl to dig mine out (it's in the thread ) and plan to mess around with it today. HTH!
