Curls Spiral Curls Cream

laurabeth, I use it as a leave in and layer over it either with a little gel or Spiral Curls Cream, which is another product I will never buy again once my bottle runs out because I don't use cones (except when I condition with One C). What I most like about Milkshake is the scent and the incredibly light feeling it has when I scoop some out into my hand. It's lighter than conditioner or skin lotion. I can't really put my finger on it, but it pleases me for some reason. Anyway, I guess this will be my last jar, so I will have to enjoy it while it lasts!

spacegirl, it sounds like a mousse-like texture. Would that be correct? I personally prefer not to use beeswax-containing products because they build up on me really quickly, especially in FL's humidity. But I wonder if the new formula's texture is similar.
I dunno if I remember this all wrong but didn't Curls used to carry a "styling lotion" too? Or is that the "creme" you all talk about?
I can't really think of anything else that feels like it. It's light and fluffy, not that that makes any sense unless you've felt it. It's not airy like mousse. I seriously don't know if it really does anything to my hair, but I just love the way it feels when I'm putting some on. And it smells yummy. And I use it on second day hair, to smooth out the frizzies.

Yes, Curls had something called Naturally Enhanced Curl Lotion (or something to that effect), which then morphed into Curl Enhancer Styling Lotion. Milkshake was the replacement for the Curl Enhancer Lotion. I never had the first version, but the Curl Enhancer lotion came in a bottle like Spiral Curls Cream and was watery. Milkshake is thicker (but still light) and it comes in a jar.

I too love the texture and scent of Milkshake. I use it as a leave in and it's fabulous on second day hair for smoothing out frizzies and curls that have a mind of their own For me the texture is akin to super soft whipped ice cream..not that I go along and dip my fingers into that an awful lot

I used to love the Curls Naturally Enhanced lotion and was pleased that Milkshake was a good alternative. Curls Spiral Cream is another of my favourites also but now it has cones and the ingredients of the Milkshake are changing I'm not all that happy. Why do companies insist on changing their products to the detriment? sigh

That said I will try the new formula of Milkshake just to see but for me the old one cannot be surpassed in its moisturising capabilities.

Modified CG - Suave coconut conditioner (CW), BC Down and Out, and and Aussie MM conditioner my current loves.
I ordered spiral curls cream and milkshake and received them right before Christmas. I never even looked at the ingredients because everyone said it was curly girl friendly. I sure hope its not bad for my hair because i'm getting the prettiest hair i ever had using these two products, shampooing with activate, using jessicurl too shea as a rinse out and aloeba as a leave in. My hair is having the prettiest most moisurized curls ever.

Here is what the ingredients say

spiral curls cream:
purified water(aqua)
soybean oil
propylene glycol
Cetearyl alcohol
ceteareth-20
Glyceryl stearate
polyquaternium-11
hydroxypropyl guar
Methylisothiazolinone
Fragrance

milkshake:
purified water
aloe barbadensis leaf juice
cetearly alcohol
behentrimonium methosulfate
jojoba oil
cetrimonium chloride
soy protein
soyamidopropylkonium chloride
allantoin
soy lecithin
sweet almond milk
coconut milk
aloe vera milk
milk amino acids
butter milk
arnica extract
lavender extract
chamomile extract
whte tea extract
methylisothiazolione
fragrance

Is this the new ingredients? or the same as the old?
2c, 3a and 3b combined. I think anyway
Love Activate poo, Jessicurl too shea and aloeba as a leave in, Curls spiral cream(old version) and milkshake!!
I also got my spiral curls cream from Curlicious.com and my milkshake from curls.biz. Curls.biz was out of the spiral cream. I'm thinking they were out of it because they were reformulating it? I must have got the last of the old spiral cream from curlicious because they don't have it for sale anymore? I was about to stock up Looks like my milkshake has the new ingredients though.

This sucks because I really love the two products I have. I guess I can still use milkshake. My hair seems fine with the ingredients.

Any ideas for a replacement for Spiral curls cream?

cgsamco...yes you have the old Spiral cream and the new Milkshake!

Maybe AG Recoil as an alternative to the spiral cream? Also, people swear by Curlkeeper but I haven't tried it yet

Thanks I'll try Re:coil. I hated CK. maybe it will work better in the summer. I got crispy crunchy hair!! I looked like I had wet hair all day. Even when I just used a little it was the same for me.

I hope re:coil is as good as the old spiral cream!!

Pure coconut milk, sweet almond milk, soy milk, cetearyl alcohol, coconut oil, olive oil, pomegranate seed oil, monoii de Tahita, avocado oil, stearalkonium chloride, plumeria extract, rosemary extract, fragrance

Is there a third ingredient list out there?
Yes! I have a third ingredient list.

Purified water, Emulsifying wax NF, Guar hydroxy propyltrimonium dioxide, Dimethicone PEG-7 avocodoate, Amodimethicone C11-15-pareth-7, Laureth-6, Glycerin, Trideceth-12, Shea Butter, Wheat Germ Oil, Coconut Oil, Simmondsia Chinense Seed Oil, Hydrolyzed oats, Silk amino acids, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Methychloroisothiaxolinone, Methylisothizolinone, Citric Acid.

I hope I typed that right. I've had this bottle for maybe 3 months. By coincidence, I was in the mood to pull this out today and try it for the first time in a while. Have to say, fuzzy curls -- not my best.
Wow, a third ingredient list. Makes things even trickier.
I just don't understand why they would change such a good product? it doesn't make sense!

Edited to add: And when compared to my original formula bottle, its also listed as 60ml (2 fl oz) less.
Think I'm 3b-ish...maybe some 3a there too...plus wavy roots....I'm just a mixed bag! CG since August '05
After waiting 10 days to receive my purchase of Curls milkshake, Curly Q Custard and the CEAHT and discovered that the coconut milk/oil gives me an allergic reaction. I took a break from it and tried coconut oil after using CON and had the same reaction. It makes my throat close up and It makes me itch like you wouldn't believe. It had me reaching for Benedryl and my Asthma inhaler. Besides the reaction, I didn't see an amazing appearance in my hair from using it anyhow. I found the milkshake rather runny. This was the first product line I've tried since going natural and it was a bummer! Plus, I'd heard so many good things about Coconut oil. I'm glad to hear that it's not just me and now feel encouraged to keep trying to find the right product for me. These products are definately going to the product graveyard. I don't know what I'm going to try next...In the meantime, I am going to flat iron my hair while I figure it out.

Don't give up, there are a lot of good products out there!
I am so pissed right now! I FINALLY thought I found one of two dream products (the other is the Goddess Glaze which I use alone) in the Spiral Curls Cream and they go and change the ingredients? So I guess it's not CG friendly anymore. And it's not even that I am on CG, I just like the idea of being able to rinse out my product with water and to know I am using something good on my hair.

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the Goddess Glaze and if they touch that I am done with Curls products.

OK, so someone suggested AG RE:coil as a substitute for the Spiral Curls Cream which I will try when I am done with my bottle of SCC, just in case, does anyone have a sub for the Goddess Glaze? I love it because it gives nice soft hold, great shine and curl definition and NO crunch, plus it does not weigh my hair down. I didn't really like Curl Keeper too much (too expensive and I had to use a ton) and never had such good luck with Jessicurl, so if anyone has another suggestion, I would appreciate it.

What a crock, if I didn't love the GG so much I would cancel my latest order...

Can you tell I am a litte upset?
HG's: (I alternate)
DEP Sport Gel or B&A Gel
Naturalle Gel (used like CK - a ton in sopping wet hair and mostly air dry)
all used over a leave in

Method: Air dry 20 minutes, then blow dry for volume.

2/3 mix waves/curls - coarse, frizz prone, med. thick, porous, at-home color for gray, protein sensitive but I still need it sometimes, glycerin-sensitive (I think) in high humidity, NOT CG, wash with regular S&C 2x a week.
