Denman brush
My Denman D3 brush came today :-D. I used it on my hair and it doesn't seem to be anything special. And it wasn't all that easy to brush through with, either. But I remain hopeful. Does anybody have any tips or things to say about it? I know some curlies use it to define curls, but it doesn't seem to have that effect for me. What am I doing wrong?
ALSO, what hair type do you think I am? Sorry if that's annoying, but I would just like to know :-)

When I use the Denman I make sure the conditioner is in first and I start at the bottom and work my way up.
This week I have been experimenting with using a fine tooth comb.
I put all my products in and section my hair. Then I take a very small row and comb thru. Then I repeat until all of my hair as been combed thru. Then I use a t-shirt and scrunch. This gets the curls to form.
Then you would air dry or diffuse, then SOTC.
I have had 2 people stop me this week and want to touch my hair. The curls have been defined and very moisturized.

I may have to try that. Of course, it will take me forever to comb through all my hair, lol.

The Denman is a key component in my Super Soaker Method for creating clumps.
In general, use it on hair that has conditioner on it, either a rinse out or a leave in. And finger rake first to untangle and snarls.

I've owned a Denman brush for years, but never used it on myself, so this wet use method is one I'll have to try!
I can understand why it would work well. What you're trying to accomplish is getting the hair to line up together perfectly smoothly. A big toothed comb or fingers will not remove 100% of the tangles and let the hair schlerp back together smoothly, and then find it's own ringlet (what I think clumps means) I found using a finer comb could do this but with a lot of extra work, and not in thick sections. The Denman sounds like exactly the right thing if you have the right hair type. I'm guessing any 3's or less would do well but that more than a 3c wouldn't, due to much stronger springiness.
Rudeechick I watched your awesome video.. well done!!! You luckily have thick hair, which I lack.. My thinner hair would is way too flat on top. The one thing I could suggest for people like me is my upside down method.
Instead of combing hair out straight down and then out sideways, I bend all the way over so my head is totally upside down and comb my hair through, right from the roots, with products well distributed. I do this in the shower, so if my hair is not wet enough to form those natural water-and-product-made coils, I add more water til it drips through and pulls the hairs together. The upside down method means that your hair is lining up at 90 degrees to your scalp, giving it maximum lift. I scrunch up my hair then squeeze out some of the extra moisture very gently without disturbing the coils. Then I flip my head and hair back and it falls with the curly coils starting right from the roots on the top of my head.
Doing this with FSG is awesome because I find that I need about three hand-fulls of gel to get enough hold... and this added wetness makes the coils really rock.
Looking forward to trying the Denman tomorrow! Will report back...

Does this method give you clumping? I'm careful with the use of my Denman, since I'm not a huge fan of too much clumping. If this gives less, it would be awesome.

This is pretty much how I use my Denman, and my clumps are itty bitty. Then again, nothing really gives me clumps, so I may not be the best example.

If you want less clumping, try getting more water out of your hair before you comb your styling product through and try using a regular comb. The Denman would also be good for thinner spirals (cant help not liking the word clump!) The only way the Denman works for nice big luscious springy spirals is when the hair is super soaked. Otherwise, on damp hair it will separate them and give you lots of thin ones.

Thank you for your replies, though nobody answered my second question
I don't really get much clumping or coiling with my Denman, but it's much easier to comb through, now. It seems to do a better job of detangling than my wide tooth comb.
I still have a lot to learn in the way of methods!
