Don't wash your hair everday - a myth or a fact?

I am aware that washing your hair everday with sulfates remove natural oils that your hair needs, which is a rule (obviously) in the Curly Girl Method.

However if you replace your cleanser with a sulfate-free shampoo or a conditioner, would that be okay to wash your hair every day under no circumstances?

Since doing this (and giving up sulfates every day) my hair is noticeably healthier. So much so, that my hairdresser comments on it every time I go in!

I think it is about finding what works for you. If you need to wash with a low poo or cowash everyday and find your hair can handle it, do it!

Edit- I also think it depends if you can get multiple day hair...I usually can't. If I am doing second day hair to give my hair a break, it is up in a bun. And my hair hates water washing.

I agree with the other poster. It might be a little drying, but if you get a nice gentle one and pay attention to whether your hair is telling you it needs more moisture (CO-wash) or less moisture (low poo), you should be fine. Experiment a little and have fun with it! Also, if CO-washing is working well for you, you don't need to get a low poo. Just a suggestion. People mainly get it just for a little clarification every now and then. Good luck, and have fun with it!

Getting hair wet causes hygral fatigue. See this link
THE NATURAL HAVEN: Mineral Oil – Proof is (not) in the hair

The hair actually becomes weaker due to the swelling and de-swelling (Analogy how many times can you stretch a rubber band until it breaks?). Damage can be sustained to the cuticle and cortex which becomes an even greater problem during combing or manipulation.
So you are better off not getting your hair soaking wet every day. That said, it is your hair. It is hardly going to fall out if you wash it daily. You also have to find things that work with your life.

Ped - thanks for the information and link. I wet my hair twice a day. Today, I decided to just spritz it with lavendar spray followed by flaxseed gel. I do have damage from too much wetting and combing, maybe this will help.
