Need recs for hairdryer please...

hi, i just bought the Conair Ion Shine 1875, it's the first time i use a diffuser and it really didn't work, i got frizz all over. I keep hearing about the pixie curl drying method, can anybody provide a link??? or tell me what this method is? also can anybody recomend a cheap hairdryer cause i'm definetely returning this one, thanks!!!

I returned the Conair dryer I bought last fall because the diffuser blew my hair around. I ended up getting a Vidal Sassoon dryer with a diffuser. It has ions, ceramic and tourmaline. I don't know the model number, but it was matte black except for silver in the center of the diffuser. I got it at Ulta but I saw it at Target for a couple dollars less. It was under $25. The diffuser works perfectly for me.

The Pixiecurl method is to cup the curls in the diffuser, bring them up toward the scalp and THEN turn on the dryer. Turn the dryer off before removing the diffuser, the move it to another part of your head, and turn it on. The idea is to avoid having the dryer on while moving the hair, and it's intended to reduce frizz.
ohhhhh thank you Suzen, i'll try to return mine and look into the vidal sassoon one, and thanks for the explanation

That's the one! I've been pretty happy with it.
I have that Vidal Sassoon one too. I'm not too crazy about the diffuser, so I put my old walmart diffuser on it. Because the finish is matte and not slippery, my other diffuser stays on really well.

I have this one too.. The one thing I don't like is that the cool shot button is hard to press!
In DESPERATE need of a haircut.
I have this Vidal Sassoon one, too. I like it, but occasionally, the diffuser falls off and hits the tile floor. A couple of the fingers have cracked close to the bottom and I fear they will soon break off completely. I am going to try epoxy to fix it.

Another one that looks interesting is the conair infiniti-- the one that comes with a diffuser, not the straightening attachment. I haven't tried it, but this was the one I was looking for when I got my VS one, but couldn't find it locally. Over this past fall, though, I've seen it in both Walgreens & Eckerds and when on sale, the price is very reasonable.

Frizz Happens!

my Fotki hair journey/experiment diary PW is brio (and I really need to update it!)

3A hair; coloring with henna/indigo since July 2009; normally follow the CG method. Still searching for my HG products!

If you get a Conair, see if you can try out the diffuser before you buy it. The one I got blew my hair around too much and I had to return it. I think the holes were too large.
i agree with suzen, the holes in the conair difusers are huge! Last night i went to Target and got the VS everybody mentioned, i was staring at hairdryers for more than a half an hour and managed to open a couple boxes to look at the diffusers and the conair ones defenitelly had the bigger holes,
I tried my new VS today and got better results than with the conair i got before new year's i still got some frizz but nothing out of control, i'm going to keep experimenting with it

I also bought the VS dryer at Target, and used it tonight on my DD. Her hair looked great- much more curl definition than just plopping or air drying. She is sleeping with it up in a big clip on top of her head with the satin pillowcase (which she hates). Hopefully tomorrow morning will be a good hair day!

Thanks for the tip on the dryer.

I have the one with the big holes, the conair. I have to be careful it does blow harder than I like. It sure dries my hair faster though. That's why in my pics you always see some hairs not with it's curl. The warm and cool blow even harder.
If I want less frizz I use the hot heat and just move the diffuser around a lot.
I do like the way the fingers have holes so that it can dry the hair close to my scalp and give me some lift.

I bought the Sedu Xti Ultrasilent hairdryer last week and it is going back. I have a Conair that I attach the Sedusa diffisuer to and I thought that the Sedu would dry my hair with less frizz. To me there was no difference between my $18.00 Conair and this very expenisve dryer and it really wasn't all that quiet. I think I may try the VS one you all are talking about, my Conair is pretty old.
I didn't buy the dryer, but I did pick up one of the Conair tourmaline diffusers yesterday, it's the one with the red in the middle of the diffuser. Does anyone else have this one and like/dislike it? There was two of them, and I didn't quite understand the difference in them, except the $1 difference.

eta: the one I bought is called Conair Infiniti Tourmaline Ceramic Coated diffuser.

Is this what you are talking about Lush? "Jilbere de Paris Ceramic Tools Tourmaline Series Radiant Heat Dryer 1875 W"
I just bought this one at Sally's I find it really heavy and prefer a diffuser with fingers. But my hair comes out much much shinier. Still working on figuring it out.

No, mine is the one I linked above. It's just the diffuser, not a hairdryer + diffuser. I think it was 7.99 at Walmart.
