I'm New - Please Help!!!

Hi, I'm 16 and the only one in my family with curly hair (3b)

I don't have the slightest clue about taking care of my hair. I finally decided to do something about the monster on my head. I really want to make friends with my curls.

I am also extremely confused by all the different types of products on the site. I have no idea which products I should use and what routine to apply. I understand that its different for many people but can someone please tell me their hair routine (what products, when, how to use them)

I dont use any curl-specific hair products. I never use shampoo because I find that it usually makes my curls weird and out of control (I have tried many shampoos)

I use a natural tea-tree conditioner. It is really great but my hair is especially tangled. I use a regular brush and I end up pulling out huge clumps of ripped hair every time I brush. (I brush my hair wet, straight out of the shower)

Can somebody please help me out? Any tips, suggestions, and advice would be tremendously helpful.
it is confusing in the beginning, but well worth the effort to figure it all out. a good way to start is by reading the information on naturally curly and these two blogs:

the newbie forum, great threads for beginners

also, try to get a copy of the 2nd edition (2009) of the book, curly girl, by lorraine massey. it also comes with a dvd. amazon.com has it, any bookstore, and most libraries. it has a lot of good info.

good luck and let us know how you are doing!
