Excited about a new product I found in Sallys :D

I was in Sallys (again) browsing and wasting time, looking at the curly hair products that I've seen many times and not bought as they're too expensive and probably won't work. The shop assistant came up wiht a tub in her hand and said "try this." It was from the afro-carribean hair section, which for some reason in the Glasgow store is opposite the hair section.

Anyway, I asked if it would be too rich or thick or greasy for my very fine and easily over conditioned hair. She said she'd recommended it to a girl with hair like mine and she loved it. There's many products in the range, and all the others would apparently be too much for my hair, but she insisted I try it.

It's Natural Hair Care - Organic Root Stimulator - Lock and Twist GEL
Ingredients: Water, Coconut MIlk, Soybeal Oil, PVP, Polyquaternium-37, Propyl Paraben, Methyl Paraben, DMD Hydantoin, Propylene Glycol, Fragrance, Sucrose

She let me try a little bit in a tub she opened in the store, as I was worried the consistency looked like wax. It's actually almost like jelly, and I had to 'pick' a bit out with my fingers but then it smoothed into my hair like a liquid/water gel and left it SOOO shiney (this is on dry hair though.) It was a teeny tiny bit crispy but I prob used too much on one bit of hair. She said it is strong hold but doesnt dry crispy and lightly moisturising.

The ingredients do look wonderful - simple with nothing unnecessary. No silicones. No proteins. Ingredients for hold (PVP) and natural moisturisers (coconut milk and soybean oil.) I'm going to wash my hair tomorrow as per my normal routine then use JUST this product and hopefully *fingers crossed* it will turn out well.

Anyway else used this? Oh it was about £4.50 which is one of the cheaper items in Sallys! It's a clear tub with a purple top and purple writing.

I tried it in the summer, and it didn't work well for my hair (3a/3b kind of dry) but I'm going to try it again today or tomorrow. I think I didn't need the moisture in the summer, but do need it now.

Your beautiful curls are much more defined than mine, so I'm sure it will work very well in your hair.

I just started using this; I'm liking this stuff. I bought it because the ingredients are minimal and seem pretty moisturizing. It has a light hold, very light pleasant scent that doesn't linger, thick gel/jelly consistency, non greasy, non oily, generous amount for the price. It's pretty moisturizing. I smooth it on very wet hair and also use it for 2nd day hair; I haven't experienced any crunch. I get defined curls, not hard/stiff. I hope you like it as much as I do!

I think the polyquat ingredient works well in my hair.

Smallfry - you say it has light hold. Do you think a strong hold gel over it would work well? Do you use it with gel or just on its own? I find if i dont have a medium-strong hold product my curls dont hold well over night to second and third day hair.

I think you'll need a gel over it. I used it in place of a cream under my gel. I didn't really care for it: lots of poof, lots of shrinkage.

Yeah this is a great product to touch up curls on 2nd day hair, tames down frizzies and reforms curls that have lost shape real well!

So i tried it on wet hair, in place of my styling products. I used no gel over it - just on its own. And the results are 'meh'. It took longer to dry, although dried with no crunch. But my curls look 'meh' - neither good nor bad. They are thinner, so it does encourage shrinkage. But my hair looks wavier with less volume - possibly weighing them down. It doesnt make my hair look bad, just not the sort of look I usually go for. My hair does feel soft though. I'll try it on second day hair as a refresher next...

My hair loves this stuff, I find that if you apply alot of it it has a strong hold, and it can get crunchy, but just scrunch out the crunch. If you use just a small amount it will have a light hold. The ingredients are great too!!

It wasnt bad like I said - but it kinda stopped my curls from clumping and made them wavier rather than ringlety. So i had very thin waves rather than thick clumpy ringlets. But I do know its better for touching up second day hair so I'll try it that way next

The ingredients are lovely!

Yeah, I say its a bit light for the way I use it. I mean its enough for my curls to be in place but not hard/stiff/crunchy. I normally use this with just a leave-in underneath or today I used it with a touch of Tigi Control Freak Serum (only near roots on crown of my head). A strong hold gel would probably work but I think it depends on how much hold you want and how much product you apply. Sorry you didn't have spectacular results the first time around but maybe it'll be better on 2nd day hair. I think it works great for 2nd day.
