Is tangling a common problem for curlies?
One thing that I'm finding particularly difficult to get used to in my effort to go naturally curly is the amount of tangling I'm having!
Are tangles something that I just have to get used to if I want to wear my natural curls? How do other curlies stand it? Is this just an issue for people with tighter curl patterns (I'm a 3b)?

It's definitely an issue for the tight AND coarse curlies. I think the best way to combat this is to find a really good detangling conditioner. I use Tresseme Naturals Moisture Condtioner and it's been great for detangling and keeping my hair from breaking while doing so. Also conditioners with "behentrimonium methosulfate" are know to be great detanglers.
Hope this helps

My hair rarely tangles. Only if I use an ingredient it hates. I'm surprised your having tangling issues with fine, and lower porosity hair. My best guess is that you're in need of a haircut?? Has it been a while??

Actually it has been a while since I had a haircut (which was a wet cut which I would then blowdry). I've never had a curly cut, but I am currently trying to get an appointment with a hairstylist who's good working with curly hair.
When my hair is wet in the shower, I can run my fingers or a wide-toothed comb through it without any tangles. When it dries, however, it develops *plenty* of tangles!! I guess I'm doing something wrong because besides the tangles, my hair just looks awful and feels coated with product when it dries.
I'm tyring REALLY, really hard not to abandon this whole "go naturally curly" idea and hope I hit on whatever combination of routine/product/cut works so I can start liking my hair. Seriously, I liked my hair a whole lot more before I started going naturally curly. I can't begin to imagine what people on this forum are talking about when they go on about how happy they are with their curls. ...Don't mind me. I'm just frustrated with my hair.
But to answer your question, yes I could use a curly cut and hope this one recommended stylist can squeeze me in in the next few weeks. If I can hang in until, perhaps that'll make a difference.

I found that when my hair was long, it would tangle easier. I've had a short bob for a month now and am amazed at how little my hair tangles now. I find that having a good protein/moisture balance helps and I agree with kam, a good cut will help.

I think it is definatly an issue for tight and coarse curlies but also for longer hair curlies just because that's the nature of long hair

Hmm, my hair's defnitely fine, and I was thinking that fine hair had a bigger problem with tangling than course, but then again, I'm still learning about hair, so who knows.
Anyway, today I have second day hair, and the curl is much less tight than wash day hair. I'm defnitely able to finger comb tangles out today with less effort, but even so, I'm looking forward to actually getting in the chair of a good, curly hair stylist for a cut.
