Thumbs up From DevaCurl to Drugstore

When I started CG I went right to DevaCurl Products - even though they were pricey...I wanted to get it right. Since I've got the hang of it now - I needed to find some products that do what Deva does at a lower price point.

I have succeeded! I was using Deva One C (32 oz for $37.95 - I know...the price alone is enough to curl my hair!) and ArcAngel (12 oz for $17.95) after reading lots of reviews and recommendations I tried LA Looks Sport (blue) gel - cost is 20 oz for $3.59; and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner - cost is 24 oz for $3.99. Huge cost cutting...and these products have worked fantastic for me!

I still used the CG method - conditioner in the hair until seaweedy, then baptismal rinses. Then I scrunched the LA Looks Gel into my hair when its soaking wet, before scrunching with the towel. I got incredible clumping and nice soft curls after I S'edOTC. AND...people have actually been commenting on how soft my hair looks - since I switched to the LA Looks and GFTN!!

I am so excited to have found these inexpensive products that work SOOO well - I just had to share. Hope they work as well for you!!!

I think I will try this mix. I love Deva Curl but I am allergic to it. It makes me break out on my cheeks chin, and neck. I just tried Joico products and it looks pretty good but it does not quite do what Deva does. Thanks for the tip!

To be perfectly blunt, Deva changed their ingredients a few years ago. The more expensive ingredients used to be at the beginning of the ingredient lists and now are at the end. It's so long ago There were a few threads at the time, but you'd have to hunt for them. People were really angry because it took them a LONG time to change the labels.

At this point, I'm not sure their formulations are all that different then some of the drugstore products you're buying. I just checked the ingredients for the One C and was really surprised at the first few ingredients for the prices they charge.

Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Glycol Distearate, Cetyl Esters, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Oleo Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Melissa Officinalis (Balm Mint) Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemongrass) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricia) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow) Extract, Propylene Glycol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance(Parfum)

nccate, it's possible that you're allergic to propylene glycol. There's a whole thread about that allergy--if you search.

Buffalocurl-- its funny.. I just purchased trial sizes of the DevaCurl today... just to see if they made that much difference from what I had been doing. I live in a rural area.. and a salon opened a little while back that actually started selling the DC Line!

just by looking at your avatar.. my hair may be similar to yours.... curl + lenght.

I have just been "modified" cg for about 5 weeks. I used a leave in that had some cones in it... but I thought my hair actually liked them... LOL
I have never tried the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner --
may have to try this as well.

going to give the DC a try, firs tho.. just to see what total CG will do to my hair. practice makes perfect.. right? LOL

KellyzKurly - I am also in a rural area and had to purchase my Deva Products online or drive a half an hour to get them. Our hair does look similar! Mine is highlighted also.

I went to a Deva Salon a few months back to get a Deva cut and highlight...but it didn't work out as expected. The stylist started doing a Deva cut (she is certified...but wears her own hair straight) cutting individual curls...but by the end - she was cutting layers just like any other stylist would...more than a little disappointing! Also - she decided that since my hair has so many highlights - it was better to do a traditional highlight then the Deva technique.

Anyhow...my hair loves the Deva products...its just that my wallet doesn't! So I highly recommend starting with them - so you know what you can get from your hair - then, if you need to, shop around for something that gives you the same results for less money. Unless I'm mistaken...I believe that both these products are CG. I've been CG for about 9 months now - and am loving it! Good luck!

Awww how depressing to get those results from the deva salon. I didn't know they had a certain way to highlight too, lol. I could be in trouble there lol.
I did try the deva stuff this morning after clarifying with prell last night and then conditioning with the suave.
La gel to dry.
I did like the product, but so far not so much amazingly different from what I had been using, but I want to keep using it to see if that changes.
I would also like to try the garnier that you mentioned after the deva is gone.....
