Plopping/Clumping Issues

I've recently started CG (products on my signature), but I've been plopping with a tshirt with ehhh results. It comes out really stringy and separated. I've been doing my cowash, rinsing, applying condish, comb through, rinse, and then rake/scrunch in HE Totally Twisted Gel in sopping wet hair in the shower, then immediately plop.

What am I doing wrong? any suggestions?
Started CG on 8/19/2011
Currently using:
CO Wash- Suave Naturals Juicy Apple
Condish- Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Condish
Leave In- Suave Naturals
Gel- HE Set Me Up Spray Gel and HE Totally Twisted Gel
Maybe plopping is not your thing? My hair has never really liked it

Another thing that could be causing lifeless curls is that you didn't do one last sulfate wash (with no cones) to your hair

BUT if you did do one last sulfate wash then I'm guessing your hair is just being rebellious and going through a transition period- no worries and just stick with CG! also don't be afraid to try out other gels and products :3

I think I'm normal-overly porous, medium-thick hair(although I see fine hair too), love protein
Plopping never worked for me. I too had stringy mini clumps, frizz on top and misshapen curls. I get better clumps by applying all products to soaking wet hair, sometimes I finger comb and sometimes I use a denman brush and then gently blot out excess water with tshirt. No plop. Much better clumps.

Like BS/ACV rinses, limit protein/humectants.
I find that it helps to squeeze as much excess water as I can out of my hair in my fists, then squish gel in. If you can hear it squish like walking through mud in all areas, and squish them all well, you'll get great product distribution, and it should help your clumping.

If you haven't watched the Jessicurl videos on gel application and plunking (a.k.a. plopping), those would probably help.

I'm finding success with applying gel after I plop. Of course, in the experimental stage, success means it worked twice. Anyway, I put a LI (right now it's KCKT) into dripping but not soaking wet hair, then plop for 20-30 min. Then I use a smidgen of gel, a dime sized amount for my whole head or I end up with cement curls. I mix the gel with a little water and just barely smooth it over the canopy and GENTLY scrunch the ends, then gently smooth down frizz if I see it.

My hair, as I see it, is fine, dense and low to average porosity if the water bowl test can be trusted (I'm skeptical). I suppose I'm 3b with some 3a patches.

Hope this helps! I know there is a thread about putting on product post-plop.
