Default Castor oil has rendered my KCCC almost crunchless

As some of you know, I'm an oil sealer. I use oil over my leave in and under my styler. This helps protect my porous hair from environmental influence.

I had been using mango oil, and it worked well for sealing. Very well. KCCC had the same crunch whether I used mango oil or not.

My mango oil vendor no longer sells my mango oil. I decided to try for something I could find locally. I read about castor oil on the 4 boards, and saw that people were having success with it. Since castor oil is available in most grocery stores and pharmacies in the US, this seemed an easier option.

I'm still tweaking the oil to KCCC ratio. It's easier to overdo this oil than it was for my mango oil.

But, when the ratio is correct, my KCCC dries with almost no crunch. It is also very soft with the castor oil, softer than it was with the mango oil.

I still scrunch a bit if I feel as if my hair has dried flat. It also hadn't changed that wet look that happens pre scrunch. But, it is far less crunchy.

I thought that was interesting and wondered if anyone else noticed it.

I'm sorry, I can't really reply to your specific questions, BUT I wanted to say that I've been using oil on top of my styler, which is on top of my leave in... but your way seems like it might work better so I'm going to try it in between my leave in and styler and see if there is any difference. Thanks!

I use my castor oil in the same way and I've found that it makes my hair crunchless too when I use KCCC.

I use oyin hair dew then olive oil once my hair fully dries from my styler. This has helped tremendously with the crunch factor. The JC LI wasn't doing it for me anymore.

I used Cocasta oil today on top of CJ AFG (bc of the high dew) and I think my hair looks the best ever with this gel. My hair also has a tad more weight to it which I like. I think im going to do this more often with my heavier gels.

That's interesting about using the oil over styler. I wouldn't have thought pf that.

I've been using coconut oil when my hair is still damp after styling & love it. It gets rid of crunch & also seems to give me a little more hold. Whenever I've SOTC in the past with a butter or just my hands it compromised my hold I also was sealing on wet hair with it during the Summer on real humid days without a LI. Not sure if it would be too much during ideal dews, haven't tried it because it seems like an unnecessary step.

Del -- I tried using coconut oil over my gel while my hair was damp once (because it felt so dry for some reason), too, and my hair came out AMAZING! It was *so* curly, even when I airdried. I never tried doing that again for some reason. (Another big DUH!!! ) But I do love my coconut oil.

This is exactly what I do when I use gel. LI, Castor Oil, then gel. Makes my hair super shiny. On my castor oil bottle it says it makes the hair soft if you add it to your shampoo but I've never done this.

How much coconut oil are you gals using to seal? I love coconut oil for face cleansing and other things. I'd like to try sealing with it. It's already in the spray I use on top of my conditioner that I leave in.

I use coconut oil to SOTC. I know Its a very thin line from my SOTC and frizz.
I will try your method to see if it helps.
