K-Pak

My stylist suggested I treat my hair 2 times a week with the K-Pak deep penetrating reconstructor on a spot at the top if my crown that's severely damaged from wearing a ponytail nonstop for bout 6 years. What r some of u gals opinions bout this stuff??
I looooooooove the reconstructor.

Sally's also has a generic version that works almost exactly the same way on me.

Curl Junkie Repair Me is close in results as well. They're all keratin based heavy protein conditioners.
Kiva! Microfinance works.

Med/Coarse, porous curly.
How do u use it? The directions say put on damp hair leave for 5 minutes and rinse out. 5 minutes don't seem very long I guess. Lol!!
I just leave it in for a few minutes and then rinse.

Some may need a follow on moisture conditioner, but I don't.

It also has mineral oil. I never had a problem with it. Others do. If that's the case, the Repair Me may work better.

Sounds good I will do it in the morning!!
another good leave in AND they have generic one also at sally's in redken extreme anti-snap leave in. years ago i read in a magazine that this girl had the same exact problem and add blow drying daily to that and it completely stopped her breakage.

I love the K-Pak, and I just leave it in for the amount of time it says on the directions. I usually follow it with a deep conditioner.

I do this about twice/month.

Good luck!!

I sometimes follow this with an vinegar rinse- I recently switched to white vinegar as its cheaper and the smell doesn't linger as much. This tightens up my curl and my hair just loves the combo. I would do the vinegar rinse maybe 2-3 times per month.

Well I did the treatment this morning I do notice a little improvement but maybe it takes more than one or it's just really badly damaged and the only thing that is gonna work is grow it out and cut the dead stuff off. And no more ponytails for me. Which sucks cause here in Texas it has been 100+ all summer and I get so hot!!!
Some damage just isn't fixable. Yours might not be so bad if the treatment is recommended.

I'd just use it every time I wash to see if that helps. Some people like more protein in high dewpoint situations, and you seem to be in one.

The treatment Empressri mentioned could help too.

There is also the Aphogee 2 step system. It's pretty hard core. I've never used it, so can't speak from personal experience. There are threads on it if you want to search them out. If your hair is really mushy and stretchy, it could be helpful if the K-Pak isn't strong enough.

RCC, I also use the Sally's GVP for a few minutes on occasion but I'll have some Repair Me to try next week. I was wondering if you think one of them is any stronger than the other? Do you also only use the Repair Me for just a few minutes? TIA

I use them both the same way - just for a few minutes. Some use them longer or with a heat cap.

I tried something by accident the other day. I didn't have enough of my Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor and so I applied some of my K-Pak on top and mushed it all together and left on for about 10 minutes in the shower. Then I rinsed and did a final vinegar rinse and the results were WOW!

My hair was so soft and silky and the curls really tightened up. I think I'll try the combo on purpose again in the next few days to see if the results I got were a fluke or not.

So, if anybody wants to try it, it was 1:1 ratio of Aphogee 2 minute to K-Pak.

Another vote for Sally's generic K-Pak product. I actually like the Sally's version better than K-Pak. I have Repair Me but haven't tried it yet. I use the Sally's K-Pak for 30 minutes under a plastic cap. Really seems to make my hair act stronger (less mid-strand breakage).
