I use mostly headbands when hair just won't cooperate but would like to do half up do's, messy buns, etc. What are some great clips, barrettes, pins, combs... that REALLY work.

I LOVE spin pins!! Great for up-do's, half up, buns, etc!

I also like ... Not sure what they are called... It's a clip with a long stick that you slide through it.

I've also used a French twist comb, and a hair clamp above it to hold it all in place. (I have long thick hair, though.)

Those are my faves! Of course clamps in different sizes are great, and headbands!!! I LOVE my double headbands!
2c/3a/3b, Fine/med, Dense, high porous, & normal elas.

DT - + honey, ACV, & EVOO to SM masque & GVPCB

I've seen the spin pins but was afraid to try! Thought they would get tangled up in my curls! Thanks for suggestions.

The figure 8 thing is from Lila rose. Someone on here sells them and will give a discount
Stopped fighting the pregnancy induced waves (9 year battle) and became natural 5/11
2a/b? fine, low porosity
co wash- say yes to carrots, strawberries and cream Vo5
low poo- Lor'eal ever pure
leave in- burt bees very volumizing watered down
gel- beautiful curls wavy-curly, LA looks sport
scrunch and pump works for me
Yes, it's that sort of thing - but mine is just a plastic arch with a stick. I'm not much of an ornate girl, either.

I also have a couple that are leather, but they will only work for half-up hair for me.

I was worried about spin pins tangling, too, but they didn't! They screw in, and screw right out!

I think youre talking about the metal Flexi-8 clips. These are AMAZING! Theyre incredibly strong yet very comfortable - they never tug on my hair the way other clips do. Robin-in-FL sells them. They are not all overly decorated, some are, but they sell very simplistic minimal designs as well. I have one basic one for daily use, and one 'fancy' one with a couple rhinestones on it for dressy events. I highly recommend the Flexi-8, theyre easily my favorite hair accessory I've ever had.

@luckycharm you are absolutely right! It was the flexi-8 that I saw. I'll have to look at them again.

I just get mine from the drugstore or walmart, target, or meijer. I check the hair accessory aisle pretty much every time I'm there to see if there is something new or to stock up on some old faithfuls.

I have not tried that U pin yet - let me know if you do!

I've been collecting lots of hair accessories lately, but I don't have any Flexi-8 clips. I'll definitely have to pick up one/a couple to have more styling options.

For now (as I'm waiting for my hair -- especially my bangs -- to grow out), my go-to hair accessories are headbands and fabric-covered scrunchies.

Flexi-8 clips are really pretty; I've got 2 or 3 I'd love to have. Just wondering it curly hair gets caught up in the beadwork on them.
Don't want to use accessories that will little by little tear at my hair.

After reading this thread I had a bout of deja-vu. I looked up flexi-8 again, realized the styles are just not for me (for the 2nd time), and then once again stumbled upon Ficcare. Their accessories get rave reviews, and are considered a lifetime investment, but good god are they expensive! However, I am now convinced I need a barette and a headband Most of the Long Haired Community loves their clips. Apparently the pieces really are worth it because of the quality, although in my opinion for the price they should be made of solid gold! The styles totally have me sold though.

Ah yes, I've searched all over Etsy as well. Same here though, just not sure what really works. I just wish Flexi-8 made a style in one solid color/design! I still might get the most simple style they make like you did. I think what has me convinced about Ficcare is that they are proven to work, last, and they're cute.

I totally agree! I ended up ordering one that was all the way at the bottom in a dark pewter kind of finish with simple design. Almost looks black. I'll let you know how it works out.

I'm still checking out Ficcare!...

Yes, thank you LuckyCharm! I sell the Flexis at

www.lillarose.biz/robin

LillaRose is the direct sales arm of Flexi-8, I sell the clips here at markets and also online.
There is a very cute one for the month of September only, with a leather flower...

And yes for anyone from NC, buy 3 and I will send you a coupon for one free item up to $15, just PM me with your address. The 3 items you buy don't have to be $15 each, and don't have to be bought all at the same time, just at some time in 2011.

Style: ReCoil & DevaCare Arc Angel (budget choices are HESMU or Got2BSpikedUp)

Henna!
Got my flexi-8 today and I have to say it's sturdier and better looking in person. I pictured plasticky looking beads on flimsy wire. The "8" is more rigid than I thought and nothing plasticky about it (I ordered one without colorful beads). I am pleasantly surprised. It holds hair well and looks nice! I need to buy bigger size for full up do's. I underestimated the amount and thickness of my hair!

I also got the spin pins but haven't played with them yet. 
