Can anyone help me-hair like straw by end of week?

I have a routine for taking care of my hair, but it doesn't seem to be working long term.

I clarify and either PT or DT/DC my hair on Friday nights, leaving the product (usually CJ) on with heat for 30 to 45 min. I wash my hair on Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays. On Saturday my hair is full of curls and is beautiful. On Monday it is okay, too. But by Wednesday, it's like straw and it's a struggle to get conditioner through it (I use CJ Gentle Cleanser and Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner from CJ). When I rake the conditioner through my hair, I lose lots of it because of the tangles. I use CJ leave in, CIAB, CJCQ, and Aubrey Moisturizing gel on the ends, then diffuse about 75%, then let it air dry the rest of the way. I SOTC with CJCC.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Do I need more protein? More conditioner? Different cleanser? (I seem to get the same results using CJ Daily Fix). I only PT once a month. Should I do more? Your advice is appreciated.
Armpit length (dry), middle of back wet, 2c/3a, fine, porous, color-over-gray, normal elasticity. Trying so hard to grow it out.
CG since June 2011 and loving it so far.
Product Junkie-love anything CJ. Used to love KT and KCCC, but lately doing nothing for my hair but flattening it.
Am experimenting with products to see what works for me. Seems like I get different results every day even if I use the same products!
I'm hoping someone far more knowledgeable than me chimes in to help you, but it sounds to me like you need more moisture later in the week. Could you cut out one of those shampoos and do a co-wash? And/or get a more moisturizing conditioner?
Yes, I was thinking that I need more moisture. Can you make any recommendations? I've never actually co-washed before-just used the Curl Junkie products, but I'm willing to try anything. Thank you for the reply.

Since your hair is fine, perhaps you should try a protein treatment more than once a month?

Btw, I always follow up my protein treatments with a 30 minute DT (either a coconut oil rinse, or a mixture of 1T honey, 1T olive oil, and 1T DC OneC. The comb absolutely glides through my hair!). For me, when I mess up with getting my PT, my hair really reflects it. I had a seriously *bad* hair day yesterday, so today I did a PT followed up with the honey mixture DT. Fortunately my hair has forgiven me and is now mmmmmmmuch better. (sigh...Thank goodness!)

What are you using to clarify? Maybe it is too harsh.
I may be wrong but the strengthening conditioner has protein and I believe the Cccc does as well. Even with fine hair, could you possibly be doing too much protein? More moisture but maybe alternate with a different conditioner? I know daily protein makes my hair like straw, but I am closer to medium texture.

I can tell you that what I use for co-wash is suave naturals (any scent will do), and the Sally's version of conditioning balm, called GVP Conditioning Balm I believe, as a RO (rinse out). Though actually, I don't really rinse it out much, I just towell dry without rinsing it. Then I use aloe, sometimes with a TINY bit of VO5 hairdressing - though that doesn't work for everyone's hair.

I lo-poo (a shampoo with low or no sulphates) about once a week. Sometimes less or more, depending on what my hair needs.

The conditioning balm really made a difference. As did stopping hairspray usage on my hair - though I'll admit I still do it on ocassion, when I need extra hold.

This doesn't mean ANY of this will work for you - everyone is different! But I can tell you those things are working for me.

You might try aloe gel as a curl perk-up on those days where your hair seems drier - I find it does wonders!

Hope that helps a little!
oh... and about co-washing - this only really works if you aren't using cones, or at least the cones you are using are water-soluable. There are plenty of articles on here about which cones are and aren't, and which cones can actually be "good" for some people, or at least are typically harmless.
I've had the same problem: protein overload. Cut it out for a couple weeks and see what happens. Or maybe cut down a bit.
It could be the CJ Gentle Cleansing shampoo.

Every time I use it, my hair is rough and feels like straw after I rinse it out. It goes back to normal once I use my rinse out conditioner. Since I was concerned with how it made my hair feel, I emailed Marsha at Curl Junkie. She told me that the gentle cleasing shampoo was a clarifying shampoo. So now I only use it once or twice a month when I feel I need to clarify.

You may be clarifying too much, which may be stripping your hair.

maybe your cleaning it too much, i no with my hair, that even when i use a sulfate free shampoo it still feels stripped n just lifeless, so maybe wat you use is too harsh, or that your washing to much?

my hair: 3c, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.

I also blog about my hair journey, please feel free to read and comment/ask questions http://www.naturallycurly.com/blogs/...air-blogs/2494
Just a thought -- Any chance your hair's Ph balance is getting thrown way off somehow? Perhaps if it's not balanced properly, the cuticle is being effected, and your hair's either losing moisture or not allowing in moisture the way it should.

Well, after the disastrous protein treatment last night, I put CJ Curl Rehab on my hair (wow, was my hair dry after the protein treatment!) and slept with it on all night. When I cleansed this morning, I used Daily Fix and the Argan and Olive Oil conditioner from CJ, then used a flour sack to blot my hair dry. I used CJ Smoothing Lotion as a leave in, then CJ Curl Fuel, CIAB, CJCQ and Aubrey Organics gel. When I put the products in, my hair squished because it still had some water in it.

It's like a miracle! My hair is so soft, I didn't even have to SOTC. I've never had such soft curls. Miss Curl Girl and everyone else, I think you were right. Too much protein and too much Gentle Cleansing Shampoo. I'll save it for clarifying. And I'll go easy on the protein. It's just I thought fine hair, which I have, craves protein??

Thanks to all the ladies who helped. You guys are great.

I forgot to mention that the only problem was it took FOREVER for my hair to dry. I've never tried the flour sack before-usually just wrapped an old towel around my head. So I don't know if that made a difference, either. Again, thanks for all the advice!
