Hmmm. For a few weeks now I've actually been going without any LI
; just my homemade FSG which I *really* like (NO product-y feel on my hair). But FSG is a styler, so really the only conditioner I've been using is when I co-wash (about 3x/week), ROs, and DTs. I know that sounds like plenty of time with conditioner, but the thing is actually, if my hair's not wet, then I don't have conditioner in it -- So the majority of the time.
It seems to be standard operating procedure for curlies to use a LI I guess because it's good for curly hair, but I haven't been -- because I HATE how it feels so product-y to the touch.
Oh well. My hair's not doing badly
without a LI, but I very probably will keep researching to find a light feeling yet effective LI to help with holding in moisture.
BTW, Elevate, if you're looking for a good, curly-safe shampoo that lathers, you should try SheaMoisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo. I checked the Product Reviews here on nc.com, and it is both sulfate and silicone free, plus the reviews from lots of other curlies were great. Even though it's sulfate-free, it lathers nicely (Don't know what ingredient is in it that causes that). It's readily available at Walgreens. One ad for it said it's at Target, too, but they didn't have it at mine.
